Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (12/24/2013) “51 willys / jeep cj2a [flatfender], 09/10 frame off redo , modern jeep 4 cyl motor [pre injection].. less than 5k miles since redo . needs a few things [emergency brake lever] , old brake system [I planned to add power brakes and steering , but never got around to it] , could used a going thru on the front hubs [they locked when I bought t but don’t now , re-grease and clean] . runs very good , gets good mileage , plenty of power ..”

This is a project. Looks more like a ’49 3A than it does a 48 2A.

(08/15/2014) This might be a good price. The body is a replacement, fiberglass, or possibly a DJ body (given the short windshield).
“This is a nice jeep I did a lot of the restoration my self. I put a vortec Chevy 350 new wiring new lights all new gages new dash new driveline new wheel cylinders new motor mounts new roll bar new seats new paint. I was planning on changing the Gears to some taller ones it is low geared right now. I’m leavening them as is if someone would like to change them. I can accommodate them . runs excellent $3500 call”

“1952 Willys CJ 3A Outstanding Condition, Ca. & Az. car, absolutely no rust. This Jeep was re-powered with a 2 litre OHC Ford Pinto motor (professionally done) . It has updated to a 12 volt electrical system & has an Optima Red top Battery. Its running 15″ American Mag Wheels with 33 X12.50 mud & snow tires. The transmission and transfer case , along with both differentals are stock units. This Jeep runs great & really does great Off Road.”

This militarized CJ-3A looks solid.
“I am offering up for sale my 1949 Willys CJ-3A Jeep. I have owned this Jeep since 1995 after searching for years for a solid flat-fender. It was originally a Fire Jeep from New Jersey where it was used for fighting brush fires. It had always been garaged and was rust free. It has 48,000 original miles. When I acquired it, the owner had painted over the original red paint with an amateur camo pattern, so I decided to do it up as an M38 in WW2 OD. It has always run like a swiss watch. Sheet metal is all original and it is still 6-volt. I installed lock-out hubs, but have the originals. It is a very early CJ-3A, as it has the Dana 41 rear axle, and the windshield is dated Dec. 48. If you are looking for a nice original solid flat-fender, this is it! This is no cobbled-up rust-bucket resurrection like most you see for sale. I have a spare transmission/transfer case and front & rear differentials from a 1952 M38A1, all excellent, which I will include. I dearly hate to part with this Jeep, but we are moving and I will not have storage for it. This is an outstanding early Jeep and a rare opportunity. The CJ-3A is the rarest early model Jeep with only about 100,000 ever made. I will not entertain any low-ball offers, so please don’t waste your time or mine.”
