Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. UPDATE: Price dropped to $1000
(05/18/2011) This is listed as a 1948 CJ-2A, but it has a DJ-3A bumper and body at the very least. It might be on a CJ-2A frame, as it does have 4wd.
“I have a 1948 Willy’s that I am forced to part with after putting lots of effort into it. The VIN plate is good and therefore easily titled. I can provide a Bill of Sale.
The front and rear end were totally rebuilt with new gears, seals and bearings. The engine runs strong after a tune up, and newly rehabbed starter. All cylinders have good compression. Clutch is functions enough to move the Jeep around the yard as you can see. So considered it drivable enough to get it up on a trailer under its own power.
The body is the problem. Not shown is the hood in standard condition. The center seam needs work. But the hood is included. The floors are gone.”

This sold quickly. The price on this DJ was $1075 and it ran and drove!

This could be a CJ/DJ combo given the 4wd.
“I am selling my 1956 Classic “Willys” Jeep CJ-2. It is powered by a 350 cu. in. chevy V-8 (2-barrel carb.) with a 4-speed (granny low) transmission. The “Jeep” has a new battery and is equipped with a tow bar. It has a clean and clear “Texas” title in my name. It has been adult driven checking fields and for hunting but could easily be made street legal. Call for directions (325) 625-1439. I have seen militarized CJ-2As, but never surreyized CJ-2As.
“1948 Willys CJ2A
The old “Pink Jeep” has been in the barn for the last 15 years. Converted to 12 volt about 10 years ago and haven’t started it for about 8 years. My son took the top off when he was a teenager and the doors are in the back. One door has a cracked window. I have two old heaters and an extra seat that goes with it. It has two newer back tires. I think some jerk popped off the VIN number plate when my wife had a barn sale a few years ago and I don’t have a title for her which is unfortunate. It was my father’s jeep and he bought it from an old lady who painted it up to look like a jeep on Fantasy Island. I hauled it down from the U.P. where it was used for bird hunting. It ran well and the transfer case is good. It does not leak oil. I put oil mixed with a little kerosene in the cylinders and needs changing. Would make a good project, but never got around to it. We are downsizing. It’s in pretty good shape compared to others I have seen in this price range.”

This might be a good price. The body appears solid on the side.
“I bought this jeep back in October 2010. Has originial engine and transmission. Engine doesn’t run but the motor is free and will turn over. The body is in great shape, just 1 dent on the drivers side front fender. The jeep has no title, but we can do a bill of sale. ”

“It’s a DJ body on a CJ3A chassis , motor , and drivetrain. Motor is a flathead 4cyl. It’s also 4WD. Runs but needs work. It’s a complete Jeep only missing seats and gas tank.”

I suspect this is a DJ-3A body on 1947 running gear.
“I have a 1947 Willys Jeep for sale. The floor in the front is pretty much rotted out. And the jeep looks rough. As it is just sitting out in the yard. But everything else is in good condition. Has a sq. engine in it and has a lot of good parts left on it and can be restored. I just need to move this. Will take a 1000.oo for it OBO. ”
