2017 Tegernsee July Convention

• CATEGORIES: Event, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This year’s 2017 Tegernsee Convention in Bavaria was, once again, met with some heavy rain. Still, they participants soldiered on with their fun. A professional photographer named Jörg Friedrich took a variety of photos at the event, four of which are shown below. I think we can all relate to that first photo! You can see the rest here:

1970 Kelly Manufacturing Brochure

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Will asked if I’d scan this brochure for him. In a post a couple days ago I thought the Bonanza III hardtop had wide glass pieces where the brown indents are, but it turns out those are just indents with dark brown simulated walnut stickers. This also shows that Kelly made Jeepster Commando and Bronco hardtops.

1944 Photo of T-14 6×6 on eBay

• CATEGORIES: Features, Old Images • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This is a print from an original negative, though the seller doesn’t specifically say that he printed it (but I get the sense that is what he did … I have enhanced the photo to make it easier to see). It’s a Willys T-14 6×6. Mark Askew, in his Rare WW2 Jeep book, has a couple photos of it from different angles, but not this one. It is one of four photos for sale as part of the auction.

Here I have an 8 ½ x 11 inch print from the original negative number 10B-36 of 4 Willys Overland Jeeps, 3 of which are tracked

Photos are marked as:
RT-284 TRACK LAYING JEEP – TJ MARK I – NO 1 WILLYS OVERLAND ENGINEERING NO. 2491-5-20-44

TRACKED JEEP – MODEL WT-0, SERIAL 02 – WITH GOODRICH TRACK RT-245 WILLYS OVERLAND – ENGINEERING NO. 2993-12-5-44

WILLYS MODEL MT-14 6×6 GUN CARRIER TOP AND SIDE CURTAINS INSTALLED W. O. ENG. NO. 1894-1-24-44

Very rare Piece for the Willys / Jeep Collector!”

<– Day 22: Aug 11, Patterson Ends His Alaska Journey | Post Trip Items: Alaska Or Rust Article in Dispatcher Magazine –>

Here’s the interview the CBC Yukon did with Hugo Vidal on August 1st in Whitehorse, Yukon, which was also the night of his 84th birthday. It recounts his trip through Whitehorse in 1955.

I was sitting with Hugo when he did the interview. Unfortunately, during parts of the interview, Around the 4:42 mark he asks “have I told you the little poem” well that was him turning to me (away from the microphone). I was thinking at the time, NO … keep talking to the interviewer!!

1954? Service Wrecker Mailer on eBay

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

The seller lists this as a 1954 brochure, but given there’s a chart dated “May 1955”, I’m gonna guess this is more like 1955 or 1956. The auction ends about 8am PST Saturday.

“Up for Auction is a Very Rare and Amazing 1954 Operators Like Mr.Service Find Profit in The ”Jeep” and Jeep Wrecker with 4 Wheel Drive Universal Brochure/Advertisement, top right corner has a tiny piece missing in very good condition.”

Unusual Hardtop from Uruguay

• CATEGORIES: Features • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Hugo, our eWillys correspondent from Uruguay, filed this report. He spotted this strange jeep, possibly a CJ-3A, with an unusual hardtop. He would have taken more pics, but its proximity behind the US embassy made snapping photos a little uncomfortable. So, he was in and out quickly!

I shared the photos with Fernando Vidal. He wrote back, “Actually, you can see ANY of weird adapting on vehicles in Uruguay… Uruguayans are customization specialists! Everyday on the roads and streets of Montevideo we use to spot many strange things on wheels of every kind. Uruguay never produced cars or trucks, which have always been imported as an expensive commodity, and its replacement parts were usually hard to find. The long term result is that they were used to the maximum (it’s common to find vehicles from the 40`s and 50`s being used as daily drivers). Creativity led to some horrendous (sometimes really funny) “frankensteins”, of vehicles from different decades stitched together on the most bizarre ways… “

MAK-A-CAR Aluminum Jeep on eBay

• CATEGORIES: Features, Models This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Not sure about the price, but an interesting item. I thought there was also a  listing for this that included the box, but now I can’t find it.

“Ultra rare assembled vintage MAK-A-CAR aluminum Jeep model kit in great condition for its age. Info is scarce on these, but found a site which indicated these kits were produced in the 40s. The first image below is of the box, found on google images. NOTE: The Jeep in this listing does not include the box.”

1943 Photo of Jeep Next to Plane on eBay

• CATEGORIES: Features, Old Images This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

The caption of this one is interesting. It reads “Two kinds of jeeps”, a reminder that both planes and jeeps were called jeeps. Of course, the command car was called a jeep by some in the Army, further complicating the history of the name.

“News Agency 1st Generation AKA Original Press Photo Size: 6.75×8.67 inches (paper size) with some minor variation”
