U.S. Border Patrol Jeeps & the US Border Patrol Museum
UPDATE: Steve let me know that the US Border Patrol Museum has an updated website with more photos. Below are a few historical photos. You can view more historical photos (with cars, jeeps, horses and more) here.
ORIGINAL POST 07/27/2012:
1. A cold day for guarding the boarder.
2. Border Patrol Inspector observing sign of possible illegal border crossers encountered while on Jeep patrol duty near Del Rio, Texas – March 9, 1956:
3. High lookout point overlooking the Rio Grande River, June 29, 1961. [Location is still used to overlook Rio Grande River.]
This is the CJ-2A displayed in the Museum. It looks a little green in this picture, but it’s actually more gray in person.
Keeneland Concours d’Elegance
Tim was at the Keeneland Concours d’Elegance in Lexington, Kentucky, this past weekend. He reports that despite a rainy day, they had a good turnout, including 10 jeeps in the jeep area. Here are some photos he took.

1949 Photo of Joe Jackson in his Jeep Wagon on eBay
The photo of Joe Jackson, Jr., below was published in several different newspapers based on this google search. He must have had a very loving wife to live in a jeep while touring Europe!
According to the article, “Joe is wearing a 64-year-old clown costume that belonged to his late father as he tries out the jeep station wagon he will use for touring Europe. Joe, who carries on a comedy act originated by his father, will use the station wagon for a dressing room and living quarters with his wife.”
1950 Photo of Jeep Junkyard in Okinawa on eBay
I was debating whether this was a cropped version of Carl Mydan’s Life Magazine photo (seen here at Alex’s Tahiti Pacifique site) or a different photo. I am leaning towards it being a different photo as the angle seems a little higher on this one.
Lawrence in the Vancouver Sun
Lawrence, his whippets, his whippet and his FC made the Vancouver Sun on Friday. Alyn Edwards produced a great article about Lawrence. You can read the entire article online and see more facts here:

Exploring the World in a Ford GPA SEEPs
Ann and I and my boys are camping near Lake Stevens for a day and then will be up at Deception Pass for a couple days. I expect updates will be spotty, but I’ve got a few things to read for Sunday.
I authored an article for Mark Smith’s War Jeeps site on five major trips undertaken with a Ford GPA Seep. It was a fun article to write. During my research I learned that Helen Schreider is still alive and living in Santa Fe, New Mexico. There’s a producer working on a film about her. The producer volunteered to ask her some questions I composed, but I’ve yet to hear back form them.

Tim & Kyle at the MVPA Convention
Tim Evans and his son Kyle attended the MBPA convention recently. This year it was held in Louisville, Kentucky. They had a great time. Tim forwarded a few photos. If you want to view more photos, check out this link http://bensimage.smugmug.com/Events/MVPA-2014/
Here’s an article about the 2014 convention from militarytrader.com.
1. Kneeling before their M-38A1 is Kyle on the left and Tim on the right. My jeep can bring me to my knees at times, too 🙂
2. Kyle poses in front of a M-715 ambulance that was for sale.
3. Tim and Kyle pose with General Patton impersonator Denny Hair.
