Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “Just got to love Texas off road! I had the best times in this jeep. We would travel through canyons and into prairies in this cherry red jeep. My husband had great fun in it hunting with his Father – in – Law. It brings back many memories.
My Dad restores old antique vehicles and it has been safely vaulted away in his storage. Recetnly we have had it out and about, but sadly it is time for it to move on to another owner. Someone else can have a great off road or city vehicle.
It’s for sale. 1946 Willys Jeep, cherry red, 11K miles, Solid and runs great! She’s ready to go hunting! Excellent shape. Asking $4000.00 and comes with tilting trailer.”
This looks like a great price with most of the value in the trailer. The grille looks like it is stainless, too.
“’47 CJ2A project. 225 Buick V-6, twin stick transfer case, warn hubs, stainless front fenders, chrome grill, early mustang taillights. Needs a coil, tires and wheels, fuel tank installed, and brakes fixed. I don’t know anything about the condition of the motor ( I got the jeep as is in a trade ). Trailer is a flatbed tandem axle with a 21′ by 6′ deck. will fit 2 jeeps nose to nose. Trailer will need a new 2 5/16″ coupler (it does function as is) and work on the left side taillights. Bruce wanted to share some before and after pictures of a trailer he saved. As you can see, the before picture shows a pretty tired trailer. However, after six weeks of work by Bruce, the trailer looks like a great match for his flattie. Thanks for sharing Bruce.
Bruce wrote, “I purchased this trailer locally (7/2/12) for $600, more than i wanted to spend. however, it was simple to transport so i bought it anyway. they are hard to find.
Every nut, bolt and screw was removed, and all 20 leaves from the springs. All of the u-bolts and one shackle were replaced. All rust was removed. The floor had a few rust holes on the side that i duct taped over and then rhino guarded (black spray) the interior. I picked up a 3×6 rubber floor mat from u-line that fits nicely inside.
The trailer had home made fenders that were welded on. Once i removed them, gaping holes were left. I found new fenders at ‘tractor supply’.

The tailgate has been filled in on this CJ-3A. Otherwise, this might be a solid jeep.

Not totally original, but not bad either. The jeep was appraised at $17k? The seller needs to ask for his money back on that appraisal.
