Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “1951 Jeep Willy’s M38 military jeep. I am selling the body ONLY. I have replaced the original body with a new. Comes with the tube, both fenders, hood, grill, and with windshield frame without the glass. Does have rust. Will send more pictures of rust upon request. Asking $1,500 OBO.”

“Original L-134 Engine. Pulled out of a 1947 CJ2A. Comes with original Carter WO Carburetor. Have an extra solex carb. I have installed a new head gasket, spark plugs, electronic distributer, coil, and water pump. Was running when pulled.”

Matt spotted this nice looking Ford GP.
“This 1941 Ford GP (#9223) is an early model Series 1, one of 1500 from the earliest series. Restored over 30 years ago by an active member of the MVCC (Military Vehicle Collectors of California), it was sold to the most recent Montana owner over 20 years ago. It is powered by the original spec 120 cubic inch 4-cylinder engine with a 3-speed manual transmission and includes a matching military trailer. This GP checks all the boxes with correct top, trailer with canvas, all of the blinkers , reflectors, extinguisher, flashlight, engine crank handle, and correct lighting.
The correct instructional tags are mounted on the dash, and the combo gauge is center mounted. There are 2341 showing on the odometer, but the true mileage is unknown.
The genuine GP engine # 9547 and drivetrain were rebuilt at the time of restoration. The seller says that it runs and drives great, and smokes a little when cold but clears up once warm. An oil service was completed five miles ago and coolant was also flushed. Brakes and steering operate as designed, and the engine does drip some oil after driving.
Here’s one I can’t remember seeing. By the size of the river, and guessing that was most likely near the former Fort Lewis (now JBLM), I’d say that’s the Puyallup or Nisqually river. Either way, it would have been a cold splash in February.

The Army’s “Jeep,” the little car that can maneuver with the greatest of ease, even goes over water. Wrapped in canvas, this Jeep provides a skiff for a squadron crossing a stream “somewhere in the Pacific Northwest.” Photo measures 8.75 x 7 inches. Photo is dated 02-06-1942.”

“Engine: V6 229/3.8L, Transmission:NP435, Transfer case: D18, Dana 44 with Detroit lockers in both the front and rear with locking hubs on the front. 5:38 gearing, WARN overdrive, 35 x 12.50 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws with a full-size spare mounted inside the jeep on a rack with lug wrench. 5-point safety belt harness, Tilton master cylinders (1) for brakes (1) for clutch, New Holley 2300 Avenger 2-barrel carburetor, Fire extinguisher in holder mounted to roll bar. On board air compressor with a connection on the back of the Jeep. Also have a reserve tank mounted on the underside. Air hose will reach all tires. Electric parking brake, K&N air filter system, Battery tender included, CB, Dual fuel tanks, Power steering. Collapsible bucket and pump that connects to the front of jeep for a shower. Rear mounted tool box with tools, parts, shovel, tow strap, etc. WARN 8264 upright winch with remote, 2 x 2 framing around the inside edge of the jeep, BEST soft top and bikini top, no tears. Comes with soft doors. Hy Lift jack, CD/radio and speakers with remote.”

“Very clean, and near original 1948 Willy CJ2 , engine was rebuilt some years back and it runs sweet & quiet, very low miles/hours. only used during deer season for the majority of its life. Parked indoors and covered. Runs great – all original engine, trans is tight, original 6 volt system with new battery, no major dents or impacts, paint is nice, suspension is good and OEM, has military tires and I have 2 spares. This is a very rare find, it is NOT modified or torn up. These are tough to find in stock condition these days, could be used as is, or an excellent restoration vehicle for full on resto. (more fun to use though). NO TRADES”
