About eWillys
Welcome to eWillys.com, a website for vintage jeep enthusiasts. I update this website nearly every day with jeep deals, jeep history, interesting reader projects, jeep related info, and more.
These quick searches can help you find things on eBay. People list in the wrong categories all the time, so don't be surprised to see brochures in the parts area for example. This section used to be split into jeeps, parts and other categories, but recent changes to eBay will require this information to be recoded.
The links to posts below show jeeps grouped by models, condition, and other ways. Some of these jeeps are for sale and others have been sold. If you are unsure whether a vehicle is still for sale or not, email me at d [at] ewillys.com for more info.
Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. So, tread carefully when purchasing a "project". If you have any concerns about buying a vintage jeep, or run across a scam, feel free to contact me for help, comments or concerns .
The rear axle isn’t mb/gpw and it has no engine or title.. There might be some value here though.

This vehicle is in great condition and needs nothing to hit the trail! This Jeep was built for trail running. Currently this vehicle is in storage on Drummond Island, but I trailer it back and forth to my house in southeast Michigan.”
This has a new body. Not a perfect original restoration, but looks very nice.
“This is a 1946 Willys CJ2A Jeep. I’ve been restoring it for about 6 years now. It has a new metal CJ2A body tub and various other new body parts. I have invested about $9500 in vehicle, body parts, paint, rhino lining, and labor. I’m asking $6,250, but would take any reasonable offer. I’d consider half cash and a trade if it were something that appealed to me like guns, guitars, or something else with wheels to make up the rest of the value. I’m ready to deal. Street legal and much stronger than an ATV.
The 46 Willys is a low geared, 4×4, original flat head 4 banger, stick shift 3 speed. It has been converted from 6v to 12v and has always been pretty much mechanically sound. Top speed is 45-50mph. It can climb paved steep inclines even in third gear with no struggle and can get about anywhere on other terrain in lower gears and 4 wheel drive. It is perfect for the farm or ranch and does well on the state highways, back country roads, hunting trails, and open fields. It is too slow for the interstate. Though it is very much still original, I wanted it to be a daily driver so I installed an additional brake light and turn signals ( not standard for the 46).”
“1948 CJ2A, Frame off painted Mil-Spec tan. Whole list of NEW items including: new wiring and ignition, tires, shocks, blinkers, steering column and gears. New gas pedal assem., cj3a windshield frame with elec. wiper, new brakes. Emergency brake has been gone thru and functions flawlessly. Under carrage has been gone thru and all works well, no squeeks or rattles. 4×4 in good shape, all guages work and it has been switched to 12 volts. Excellent oil pressure, speedo works. Engine has been gone thru with new pistons, rods, valves, valve guides(for running reg. gas), All gaskets, thermostat, carb, fuel pump rebuilt, and new clutch. I drove it the other day in traffic and was cruising around 55-60 and the temp stayed about 160-180. New radiator, and seat belts. Comes with Bikini top, role bar, shovel on drivers side, axe on other side, 2 jerry cans and spare tire. Also most importantly- clear title in hand. What it could use…….Factory seats, factory gas tank. Currently running on boat gas take under seat. SO HERE IT IS, ENJOY because it’s ready to roll for the summer. $4000.00 OBO Contact Mike @ 859-227-7927.”
(04/30/2012) I tried to uncover more information about the use of Willys engines in Holt Forklifts, but I found nothing.
However, regarding forklifts, I found that Mercury forklifts were stamped ‘JEEP’ prior to the development of the jeep:
Otis Elevator and Baker Electric Truck combined to produce the first Lift Truck in
1907. It had a nickel iron battery and it had a chain lift. The company was know as Otis-Baker. Baker manufactured the Baker Electric Car but then switched to industrial tow tractors and pushers. They had tiller steering. Otis Elavator was the preeminent expert in all things lift so the marriage was perfect.
Mercury electric trucks were competition for the Baker and they eventually became Pettibone-Mercury. Mercury had nothing to do with the Ford Motor Company and their use of the name pre-dates Ford’s. Mercury was the first company to use the word “jeep” on it’s forklifts. The use of the name pre-dated the famous Willys Jeep. Forklifts to this day are still called Jeeps and occasionally in an old industrial scap heap you may still see a counter weight for an original Jeep.
I tried to locate the year in which Mercury forklifts were first called jeeps, but have yet to find it. Instead, I found this brochure on ebay that clearly labels the forklift as JEEP as early as 1950.

Below we have the Holt Forklift that is for sale:

If you are in the USA, enjoy your Fourth of July! The CJ-2A photo on top and the WW2 Jeep on the bottom participated in last year’s Fourth of July Parade in Prescott, Az. Both were taken by 89AKurt and posted onto Flickr.
