Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. | I have a 1956 jeep has a factory hardtop with doors. It has a very solid tub 456 gears. It’s a very solid jeep for 56 model. My dad removed the motor and completely rebuilt it new pistons,rings,rod,main bearings new intake valves redid the head new fuel pump water pump new points in the distributor new plugs and wires. He has everything to put it back together has a 8000lb stand up warn winch, he has some more parts to go with it. Would make an awesome hunting rig or a farm rig, clean and clear title. | 1946 Jeep CJ2A runs and drives great! It has the original go devil 134 engine and three speed transmission. It does not smoke or burn oil, it is a good healthy, strong engine. This is a project I’ve been working on the last couple of years. I’ve gone through the body completely, it has all new paint. My goal was never to make it completely perfect but to have a good representation of a 1946 Jeep. It could use a few odds and ends if you were wanting to really bring it up to total restoration quality. It needs nothing the way that it sits. I made a list of some of the repairs in new parts that are on it. I also have some of the old parts that go with it like the original 6 V generator, original windshield wiper , original heaters that go under the dash, and a bunch of other odds and ends. I went through the transmission and transfer case last summer. I ended up replacing about 90% of the gears, all of the bearings and synchronizers, they are mostly new parts inside. I am not interested in lowball offers or trades. If you’re looking for an old jeep, this one is solid. New tires and inner tubes Refurbished wheels New shackles New exhaust from the manifold back Rebuilt, transmission, and transfer case New gas tank Rebuilt carburetor New spark plugs, distributor cap plug wires, and points. New water pump New radiator hoses New exhaust manifold gaskets 12 V conversion New wiring through the whole vehicle New gauges New soft brake lines New windshield to body rubber gasket New Besttop low back seats And a bunch of other odds and ends that I’m sure I’m forgetting. |
