Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. What is that between the seats?
“Hi I’m sellin my 46 cj2a po filled the cylinder with oil when stored away I picked it up in spring thing got 300 bucks in parts to get her going but don’t have time or place to restore it rather see it go to someone who will bring her back to life”

The motor runs. It’s early enough to have rear hubs. But, it’s rough.
“for sale very early 1946 CJ2A column shift jeep. runs body is shot. frame tag is on inner rail like a 1945 numbers say it is 1946, I assume it is from the first month poss the first week of 1946. It runs and drives, no brakes. needs a lot of TLC. this one of the rare ones full float rear end all the original column shift is there and works. has been sitting in my shed for years. sold as is. I have a clean title and all of the ID tags, with atching numbers. motor has been replaced at some time. runs but needs attention.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $9,000.
(01/14/2014) It’s listed as a ’48, but has a serial number of 12275. It has the early windshield, data plates, and rear hubs. Looks solid.
“This 1948 Willys Jeep CJ-2Awas a frame off restoration with all new sheet metal. The seats have been re-upholstered. It is a 4 wheel drive, 3 speed, 4 cylinder. Originally has 73,855 miles on old speedometer, but a new speedometer was installed and set at 0. The electrical system has been changed over to a 12 volt system. Original engine runs great!! Starts every time. This vehicle would be great fun to drive!!!”
The body number is #11777.
“I have a tub from a 1945 Jeep. I also have the fenders and a grill. The serial number on the tub is 11777. It is also on the tailgate. There were only 1824 of these vehicles made”

Ann and I took pictures of these in March during our trip through Western Colorado. That CJ-2A is a VEC with square bolt bow holders on the windshield.

Looks like the column shift has been switched out. Looks solid otherwise.
“Very clean 1946 Willys CJ2A. All original except an important upgrade to a dual reservoir master cylinder (for safety purposes). Excellent working condition, I have done all the work on it over the past 3 years… fairly extensive restoration and has been painted in its original colors; Pasture Green with Autumn Yellow wheels. Paint is not perfect 8/10. Body is rot free thought there are certain areas where rust was once a problem. No shakes or wobbles at speeds in excess of 60+ MPH. Flathead 4 cylinder is reliable, leak free and powerful. I use it the way it was intended to be used when it was built in 1946, it’s a work vehicle but it is maintained properly. No mechanical issues: holds good oil pressure, no overheating, 4wd works, etc.”
No description, but the tool indents suggest it is a VEC.
