Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This story is interesting. Larson was involved in starting a jeep club in the mid 1960s. Apparently, manufacturers threatened to cut off warranties for any vehicles that entered a club. I’d never heard that.

(10/15/2012) Appears worth a look at this price.
“I have a 1948 Willys Cj2A. It has an enclosed metal cab(koenig). It is a 4 cylinder, 3 speed, 4wd. Starts and drives, excellent machinical condition. Does not have a heater. Speedometer glass is missing. The plow works. Some holes in floor and frame cracks as noted in pictures. It is running off of a aux. fuel tank in the bed. Four extra mounted tires included.”

This militarized CJ-3A looks solid.
“I am offering up for sale my 1949 Willys CJ-3A Jeep. I have owned this Jeep since 1995 after searching for years for a solid flat-fender. It was originally a Fire Jeep from New Jersey where it was used for fighting brush fires. It had always been garaged and was rust free. It has 48,000 original miles. When I acquired it, the owner had painted over the original red paint with an amateur camo pattern, so I decided to do it up as an M38 in WW2 OD. It has always run like a swiss watch. Sheet metal is all original and it is still 6-volt. I installed lock-out hubs, but have the originals. It is a very early CJ-3A, as it has the Dana 41 rear axle, and the windshield is dated Dec. 48. If you are looking for a nice original solid flat-fender, this is it! This is no cobbled-up rust-bucket resurrection like most you see for sale. I have a spare transmission/transfer case and front & rear differentials from a 1952 M38A1, all excellent, which I will include. I dearly hate to part with this Jeep, but we are moving and I will not have storage for it. This is an outstanding early Jeep and a rare opportunity. The CJ-3A is the rarest early model Jeep with only about 100,000 ever made. I will not entertain any low-ball offers, so please don’t waste your time or mine.”

Listed as a 1955, this is clearly 1972 or later. Runs and stops, but has some rust issues. It’s a rare right hand drive model.

This has some updates.
“This is a rare 1974 cj6 JEEP. It has been in my family since new. It has a small block 304 with a three speed manual transmission. It has an 8 inch lift kit on it with 18 inch rims with 37 inch Toyo tires which are practically brand new they still have the nubs on them. The body is in OK shape there is little spots of rust, the interior needs work thanks to my cat. The seats will need to be reupholstered. it has racing seats with 4 point seatbelts for front an back seats. It has custom tail lights, and tailgate. most of the body lines have been smoothed out. I also installed newer differential to have disc brakes. I also have the original one’s too. ”

(06/21/2013) Looks like a solid jeep.
“Completely rebuilt Ford OH valve 4 cyl. engine; 5 (five) miles on it. Tilt leather steering wheel. Title, licensed to 2015. Two tops included. Completely gone through. $8K in receipts for lots of work (2013). $14K invested. Selling for $6,000.”

A variety of repairs have been done to this 2A.
