Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (09/03/2018) Engine is locked. A rare desert dog sighting on this former racer.
“47 Willys Jeep aftermarket steel body, tilt front end, CJ chassis, Dana 44s, 480 gears, a true four-wheel posi front, and rear, 327 .30 over thats locked up, Ported heads, intake, Holley carb, 400 trans. This jeep was raced in the Great Lakes sanction. Sand Drags and obstacle course in the 80s, and 90s known as a shuffler..”

“Rebuilt 225 V6, Turbo 350 rebuilt, model 20 rebuilt, Husky Overdrive rebuilt, mod 25 and 44 differentials, full floating with locking hubs front and rear. Has been in a garage since rebuilding for 30 years. Has 3A windshield, body without a tailgate, fenders, grille, hood, body complete not bolted to the chassis. Frame is a DJ 5 that has been strapped from front to rear. To show its age, it has a set of brand new Desert Dogs on multi spoke Vector wheel”

“1953 Willy’s Jeep CJ3A 4 speed with a chevy V8. Warren overdrive, power steering, full cage rollbar, 10 in brakes, 10 in tires, tilt wheel, rear seat, corvette aluminum cross flow radiator, and a 4 barrel carborator. Not sure on the miles but no more than 15,000. We are asking $7000.00. Jeep has been in the garage its whole life and is in great shape. This is a fun jeep!”

Day 16: Monday we drove from Cincinnati to Columbus, Ohio, via Roger and then Rick and Paulette’s places.
Monday’s trip took us from Cincinnati to Columbus, Ohio.
The first step towards facing your problem is admitting you have a problem. Yes, I have a problem. I have Jungle-Jim-itus. After saying our goodbyes to Scott, our first stop of the day was at Jungle Jims (just happened to be on our way, sort of). Our goal was to explore the gluten free aisle, then check out the coffee aisle. We were fairly well-behaved and managed to leave with only a few items.
When you need a map for a grocery store, you know you are in a big one!
Our second stop of the day was at Roger Martin’s house, where he plans on holding another Southwest Ohio FC gathering this summer. Since we won’t be around for that event, I got to have some early hands on FC fun. Roger’s been working on a green and gray FC-170. It runs great, but needs some more body work. He pulled it out of the garage and let me drive it around his property. I liked that it didn’t have a windshield!

Interesting engine choice for a later build. The fact that it appears in a Desert Dog ad is pretty cool!
“This car was raced in the late 70’s and 80’s the last race it completed was in 1990. Glenn Emery built this car as one of the first 4WD 4 wheel independent suspension rear engine vehicle. It has a Buick 215 V8 mated to a Turbo 350 transmission with a B&M shifter. There is a Casal V-drive to get the driveline turned the correct direction mated with a corvette rear pumpkin. The car is rock solid and has a solid start on the restoration. The car is currently street legal and runs, get in it and go have fun. I’m not entirely sure how much travel this car has, but it’s a lot. It can take 2-3 ft whoops at any speed.
My uncle was in the pit crew back in the day when Glenn Emery owned the car. He sold the car to Carl Cook and we tracked the car down a few years ago and found it sitting in a barn. We got it running again and started the restoration. Mickey Thompson has driven and raced this car a few times as well, it is a true timepiece of off road racing. The old pictures have Mickey Thompson in the drivers seat. Life got in the way and we haven’t used it as much as we wanted and it is sitting more than it gets used.

(02/22/2018) This late model CJ-3B has some Desert Dogs in great shape.
“Hello, I have a CJ3B project for sale, It includes the body as seen in photos, new frame with springs Dana 44 rear axle, Dana 30 front axle and four good Desert Dog tires. This is a new reproduction frame, not a sandblasted old frame. I have installed Saginaw steering using Jeep Parts from a 1971 Jeepster Commando, is a very good installation, and a trailer hitch made from 3/8 steel plate, so it is plenty strong and looks nice. Also, the front bumper is made out of 1/4 steel plate that I had made to look like a stock bumper, so it is really strong over a stock bumper. This is a very good start for a project, and I also have other Jeep parts for sale if interested in building a solid Jeep project. This project comes with the original VIN plate for registration, but this project is being sold with a bill of sale only. I can deliver this Jeep within 100 miles for fuel costs both ways.”

Marty shared this one. It not only had desert dogs, but comes with a second set of them. Might be worth buying for the dogs, then turning around and reselling it.
