No Updates For Sunday

• CATEGORIES: Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

I’m in Seattle for a few days helping my parents. Updates resume Monday.

“They Shall Not Grow Old” is the name of this unusual WWI documentary directed by Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings, etc) that’s being released to some theaters. It’s all made using restored/repair actual footage of WWI. They also employed professional lip readers in the hope of capturing the dialogue seen in the video clips. It’s all wound together with interviews of WWI soldiers in the 1960s/1970s.

Here’s a trailer for the movie:

And here’s a part that shows what the British troops though of German Soldiers:

Echeverria Field GPW Dedication for Wickenburg VFW

• CATEGORIES: Features, Museums This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Joe-in-Mesa’s daughter’s boyfriend’s father (way to suck him in Joe!) took this photo of a 1943 GPW dedicated to the memory of the Echeverria Field near Wickenburg, Arizona, and donated to the Wickenburg VFW. Obviously, it’s not a perfectly restored vehicle, but it does help provide a tangible memory for VFW visitors.

Joe searched and found a few more photos online:echeverria-field-pics-gpw2 echeverria-field-pics-gpw3

Here’s the VFW where the jeep is located, though Google did not capture the jeep outside:

Here is some location information about the air field. The location was not available via Google maps, so this is a hacked together location image:

1955 M-170 Decatur, TX **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: M-170 • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $8000.

Looks like a good price.

“1955 Jeep M170 Field Ambulance – the stretched version of the standard jeep. Wheelbase like a Scrambler. Runs and drives great. This is as clean as any M170 you will ever find – they are rare and you just don’t see any in this condition for anywhere near this price. About 25,000 miles. All parts are original. Fun to drive and a great show or parade vehicle. Have Texas title, is licensed for 5 years.”

“Featuring the branding of the service shop that operated in, the seller notes that it was parked indoors every night up until 10 years ago. The body and frame are said to be remarkably intact despite also being a plow truck, and the seller has removed the plow attachment and related components. It has been repainted at least once, but the original service station graphics were preserved when the repaint commenced.”

“Bitchin’ old jeep for a ranch or a cool beach cruiser! Great Christmas Present and Project!

Has a running engine! New radiator, Thermostat, Water Pump, Ignition Switch, Ignition coil, Battery, Hoses & Filters and rebuilt Starter. It’s a project as it needs a brake system and seals. $4,200 into it this far.

Has been in my family for approximately 40 years. With no current registration and title, it comes with a Bill of Sale and DMV Transfer of Title Duplicate paperwork.

Hate to see it go but don’t have the time to get it operational in the near future.”

“This vehicle was bought new in 1946, has been in the same family until recently, has a PTO with a belt drive, that runs different accessories, it has a snowplow that attaches to the rear bumper on this vehicle, this has been a frame off restoration a few years ago, over $18,000 invested into the vehicle, I have all of the army accessories that came with the jeep from 1946, as well as documentation, this is an extremely rare find, it runs and drives perfectly, I except trade-ins,”
