1944 Court Case Regarding Jeep Name

According to this August 10th, 1944, article, drivers began calling the vehicles “jeeps” by November of 1940.

    This would seem to be a very definitive article on the origin of the jeep name (1940), except it was made by two Willys Overland employees in 1944 while the company was in court over the use of the jeep name. I doubt there will ever be a true accounting of the origin of the jeep name!

    I’ve read that for a considerable period of time before the current jeep made it’s first appearance motor pool personnel called any new vehicle that came in for testing a jeep. This article seems to confirm this.
