New to eWillys? Here is a very brief synopsis of this website: You can Contact Me with questions, comments or concerns. The image to the right is of my Jeep - Lost Biscuit. Learn more about eWillys, about Me or read the FAQs.

1. This website is dedicated to pre-1980s Jeeps &/or Willys, though it mostly focuses on flat-fenders (MBs, GPWs, CJ-2As, CJ-3As, CJ-3Bs, M-38s, DJ-3as). If you want to post something (your build, your jeep or sale, etc), it is easy; just contact me.

2. Most of the content on this site relates to flatties that ARE or WERE for sale on craigslist and ebay. My interest here is to help people buy & sell Jeeps & parts; to educate about 'old school' modifications and available parts; to make connections with other Willys Enthusiasts; and to entertain.

Let’s see … we have an 1947 “authentic WWII” style M-38.  Someone’s confused.  That said, it looks pretty good.

“1947 Willy’s Jeep for sale. Authentic WWII style with original interior, canvas cover, tools, etc. Great for any collector, hunter or camper. New wiring and semi rebuilt engine. Only 4,022 miles. Great 1940′s nostalgia feel. Needs minor mechanical work if you are wanting as an everyday vehicle. Please call if interested. 873-1477, leave message if no answer.”

UPDATE:  Price dropped to $4900

(07/15/2010) This looks solid.  I wonder if that really is a BW OD or a Warn OD.

“Original M38. New seats(front buckets and rear military style quick removable “clam shell style bench), tires, brakes. Runs great! starts right up and goes anywhere. Borg-warner O/D so it’ll cruise 60mph if you dare. It’s not a perfect museum piece yet, but high KBB is $17.5k for one like that.”

(03/20/2010) It’s got a Buick V-6 225, but otherwise appears pretty stock.  It does have those m-151(?) rims that cause it to have a narrow track.

I wonder why this is sporting a Dana 23-2 rear end?  The Dana 23-2 was used on the MBs/GPWs and early ’46.  Next, the Dana 41 was used until the Late 1950 CJ-3As when the Dana 44 was installed.  As best I can tell, all the M-38s used a Dana 44.

“Rare Korean War military Jeep. Good body; solid floors, has some rust on sides but easily repairable. Swapped in Chevy 350, stock, runs good. Comes with Advance Adapters Small Block Chevy to original Jeep T-90 transmission assembly($500 new), good transmission and good Transfer case, Dana 25 front axle, Dana 23-2 rear axle, 15 inch wheels with tires that are worn out. I will sell for $2,100 negotiable. Call or text ANYTIME 615-788-4122 or email.”

Here’s a ‘professionally’ restored M-38 that doesn’t appear accurately restored.  You can see it is missing the M-38 grille and grill mount, suggesting this is a CJ frame. It doesn’t have a M-38 gas tank and the inlet is in an odd position.  The windshield vent should be bolted, not hinged. The rear of the frame looks civilian;  Here’s the way the rear should really look. Note the drain piece where the hood connects to the body — that is from a CJ-3A.  And, last but not least, the Dash Plate is installed upside down and backwards …

These are some good parts awaiting a restoration.

“This is the one a collector has been waiting for!  hard to tell if it was removed from the assembly line!  as you will see in the pictures, absolutely no rust now or ever. it has been sitting in storage and needs to go. what you see is what you get!  basicly complete body and frame. NO ENGINE OR TRANS/ TRANSFERCASE, NO WIRING, LIGHTS, SWITCHES, GAUGES. all the difficult parts are there though, as you will see in the pics.  these models are extremly rare and i’ve been in the jeep business for over 30 years and never seen one like this before. this jeep does not have a title and is being sold as parts only. if you had a rusted out m38, add your powertrain and electrics and you will be done! if not capable, call me. i do restorations.  heads up, reserve is around the price of a new body kit.”

Located down in Miami, Fl, and formerly located at the Trump International Beach and Hotel, the Dezer Museum became a public museum in 2010.  It is now housed in a 250,000 square foot complex that showcases a collection of 600 cars, thousands of memorabilia items, a food court, shopping and more.

The collection currently has two jeeps.  One is a 1951 M-38 (which can be bought for $20,000) and a CJ-3B (which they have incorrectly listed as a 1951 and is for sale for $25,000)

Here are some pics of the CJ-3B:

Here’s a good looking M-38.  Paul accurately notes the frame appears civilian, lacking the appropriate hinges on the grille.  Instead, it has the civilian brackets.

Aug 172010

It’s a mixed and matched jeep, but looks solid.

“1952 WILLY JEEP M 38 still running the body is in great shape the only thing altered is the second battery box was removed and bonded over. This was done before I received the Jeep. The 24 volt system was removed and the 12 put in its place. Let’s be honest here the body is probably the only original M38 part. The motor is a 6 cylinder from a scrambler placed in the jeep. The motor is a Buick V6 225. It has a 3 speed transmition out of a 1968 CJ5 as well as the transfer case they are the same make as used in the earlier willys. I added power steering to the jeep also. I do have extra parts also.  I check my email all the time so if you are interested I will reply. make me an offer. Do not ask if i still have this i will not reply due to other people pushing a better way to sell.”

UPDATE:  the seller lists this as a M-38, but as J.R. points out, it looks more like a CJ-3A.

It runs and drives.

“ORIGINAL 1952 M38 MILITARY JEEP WITH ORIGINAL 4 CYLINDER WILLYS JEEP ENGINE THAT RUNS AND DOES NOT SMOKE. BODY ON THIS JEEP IS BADLY RUSTED AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT OR YOU CAN REMOVE THE BODY AND MAKE A HELL OF A “MUDDER” OR HUNTING VEHICLE OR JUST USE IT AS-IS WITHOUT DOING A THING TO IT. THIS IS A ROUGH JEEP AS SHOWN BY THE PICTURES BUT IT STILL HAS THE POTENTIAL TO MAKE A GREAT RIDE. $1500 OBO. FOR ADDITIONAL INFO, CONTACT TONY AT 321-848-2451.”

UPDATE: Roberto forwarded this link about M-38CDNs.  Bidding ended without overcoming the reserve.

Here’s a cool bit piece of history.  This appears to be 1 of 2,135  Ford-of-Canada assembled M-38s. This particular jeep has some unique features, including the most unusual tailgate latching system I’ve ever seen (are those car seat belt latches?).

“You are bidding on a 1952 Ford M38 Jeep, this Jeep was built under contract to Ford from Willys in 1952 for the Canadian Army. About 2600 were built. I have rebuilt this entire jeep, it now has a rebuilt 283 Chevy engine with a turbo 350 tranny. The engine has been moved back in the frame about 7 inches, the firewall was moved back very tastefully to accomodate. The engine has been extensively modified with: .040″ overbore, new flattop pistons, a lumpy Crane cam, Edelbrock intake and carb, Mallory distributor, Crane roller tip rocker arms and lots of chrome of course! The tranny was rebuilt, has a stock convertor and a mild shift kit, the jeep is so light it will chirp the tires in second gear! This Jeep handles extremely well and goes like a scared cat! A Griffin 5 row aluminum rad keeps the little beast cool.

The rear axle is an ’86 S10 unit that has been narrowed. Its running 3:42 gears and Moser axle shafts, the axle has been narrowed. The front axle is from an ’88 jeep Cherokee and has been narrowed too, it has 11″ disk brakes. Rims are American Racing ‘Slider’ 15×8 and 15×7 with BFG rubber 21570R15 and 25560R15. The axles have been narrowed so that the tires both stick out past the fenders the same amount front and rear.”
