Chicago Auto Museum Auctioning Collection at No Reserve

From Hemmings:

“The Klairmont Kollections Automotive Museum in Chicago announced that it is permanently closing its doors, also confirming that the entire collection of vintage and classic cars will go up for auction this September without reserve.”

There are a number of really cool cars being auctioned (e.g. “The Golden Sahara II“) but there are quite a few Jeeps that will be auctioned as well, including some quite rare models:

1966 Jeep CJ-5A Tuxedo Park Mark IV

1970 Jeep CJ-5 Renegade

1951 Willys Jeep Station Sedan

1955 Willys Jeep M38A

1985 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

1968 Jeep Wagoneer

1950 Willys-Overland Jeepster Convertible

1950 Willys-Overland Jeepster Convertible

1960 Willys Jeep DJ-3A Surrey Gala

1951 Jeep Willys CJ-3A

1947 Willys-Overland Jeep CJ-2A

1986 Jeep Wrangler Serial No. 1 SUV

1993 Jeep Wrangler Custom

1950 Willys Jeep Model 473 Pickup

1969 Kaiser Jeep J-3000 Gladiator Pickup

1985 Jeep CJ-10A Flightline Tug

1965 Jeep CJ-6A Tuxedo Park Mark IV

1955 Jeep CJ-5 Cutaway Chassis

All of these vehicles appear to be in top cosmetic condition, but (as with any museum vehicle) they will likely require some (possibly significant) work prior to being road worthy.

Or you could simply buy them all, and start your own Jeep Museum!

Here’s a link to the entire auction catalog if you’d like to browse the other cars and memorabilia being auctioned:

UPDATE: This is a very old post (which likely needs updating), but Mauri added a nice addition to it, a video of Jay Leno driving this rig.

Originally posted April 28, 2011: The National Automobile Museum (the Harrah Collection) in Reno, Nevada, opened in 1989.  Most of the collection is based on Bill Harrah’s (gaming pioneer and avid collector) automobile collection.  Following Bill’s death in 1978, the Holiday Corporation bought Harrah’s Hotels/Casinos and more, including the collection.  Then Holiday announced they were going to sell the cars.  This ticked off Nevadans, so the governor stepped in and helped negotiate a donation of the cars by Holiday to a special non profit organization established for the purposes of a museum.

The museum was named among the top ten museums by Car Collector magazine, has been ranked as one of the best 16 car museums in the world by Autoweek, and has been selected the best Museum in Northern Nevada in Nevada Magazines’ Annual Readers Poll.

The collection appears to have only two jeeps.  One is a slightly modded CJ-5; the other is a Wagoneer that was outfitted with a Ferrari engine and called a Jerrari.

Here is the Jerrari as photographed by RenoDesertFox from Flickr.  Note the color of the first image is the correct color and the remaining images have had the colors tweaked by the photographer, but still show a good deal of detail.

UPDATE: My apologies for leaving out Bob’s name from this post! Thanks Barry.

Keith Buckley (aka Joe Friday) and Bob Westerman (aka Bob W.) narrate a video for Klairmont Kollections Automotive Museum showing off the museum’s cutaway jeep. It’s pretty neat setup. The museum is located in Chicago, Illinois.

The Jeep Guy Museum in Lindon, Utah

• CATEGORIES: Features, Museums This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Yesterday I was looking for something when I stumbled upon a Jeep collection in Lindon, Utah,(a short distance north of Provo, Utah) called the Jeep Guy Museum. It’s the first I’ve heard of it. I guess I’ll be back down to Utah to visit the kids sooner than expected, lol! The Jeep Guy currently offers private tours (possibly requiring a donation?), but hopes to move to a new location where they can be open to the public.

“The Jeep Guy Museum is a private jeep collection consisting of vintage to new jeeps from 1944 to 2021. We have rescued and preserved jeeps to keep them in their original form and bring the ones that need it back up to running condition. We have also built very capable jeeps at The Jeep Guy for offroading and exploring the outdoors.”

If you head toward Yellowstone, but it still remains closed (roads got his pretty heavily due to rains/flooding), you might detour to the National Museum of Military Vehicles in Dubois, Wy. This huge collection of military vehicles includes multiple jeeps.
