Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “I have for sale a 1947 project Jeep. The engine is not seized up. I was able to get it started. Fuel tank is removed but included and it needs a battery. I was going to make this jeep into a ranch wagon but due to my health I cannot do the work.
There is NO title but will provide a bill of sale.”
The DJ-3As guys were exchanging emails the other day about a little known change in headlight and parking light bezels and housings during its production run. I’ve organized the information they sent and found additional information online. Hopefully, I got everything correct.
For the DJ-3A, the parking light and headlight changes occurred in 1959, with the DJ-3A switching from the 2A/3A headlight and parking lights to the later model parts. Other models (CJ-3Bs, trucks, CJ-5/6s, and wagons) had their parking lights changed in 1956.
HEADLIGHTS BEZELS:
From 1955 to UP TO 56337-15802 in 1959 the DJ-3A used the same headlight bezels as the CJ-2A/CJ-3A. Some people call these the flat bezels and the later models bug eyes.

From 56337-15802 in 1959 to 1964 the DJ-3A used the later versions, also used by the CJ-3Bs, trucks, Jeepsters, wagons, CJ-5s (1955-1971), FCs, and CJ-6s.

PARKING LIGHTS AND LENS CHANGES:
From 1956 to 1959 56337-14103 the DJ-3A used the same parking lights and bezels as used on CJ-3B 1953-1956, CJ-5/6 1955-1956, Trucks 1953-1956, and Wagons 1953-1956.

The parking light housing was also different. The early housing mounted with horizontal holes, while the later housing mounted using vertical holes. The CJ-3B sites explains the differences.
UPDATE: Was listed in Hobe Sound. Was $4000.
Listed as a 1948, it’s a 2WD DJ-3A. It looks like the steps might have been altered slightly.

It’s a project.
“his is a project jeep. It was a postal military jeep at one time. It is 2 wheel drive. It has the original L-134 Flathead motor that has been rebuilt and has not been started yet. It has the original T-96 transmission which has been rebuilt and converted to a top shifter. I have had all the parts off the motor rebuilt. It has a 12 volt charging system. It still needs few more parts to get it running. It has some brakes and new shocks. It had a metal top at one time but not when I got it. It has no doors. I have a tow bar for it. The radiator has been rebuilt also. It needs all fluids. The engine and transmission are in the jeep. It is a good project jeep to finish. It also has a new clutch and throw out bearing. I have more pictures that I can text if anyone is interested.”

This and nine other Jeep News magazines are for sale, but they are in Australia. This puts them out of my budget. However, there’s some pics just good enough to see the photos and headlines. For example, in just the two pages below there are variety of examples of DJ-3A dispatchers, FCs, and other jeeps sold. Check out the 22 DJs sold to the Canadian Navy. Good stuff!

Glenn spotted this. He wrote, Bet you’re wondering why this relates to DJ3A? This Indy located parts car might help with some very hard to find stuff such as 15″ four stud wheels, most brake parts, and probably more. These wheels are not a perfect match to the DJ3A wheel, but work perfectly and accept the big W hub caps. This is up for best offer and sounds like you can tell the seller to keep his engine etc. When you’re done pickin’ Willys Goodies, you still have first edition Nash Rambler stuff to sell.
