<– See Overview of Trip Posts | Beginning | Day 1: Friday March 9: Oh, the Inhumanity! –>

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who offered to read the book! I’ve selected a couple readers. I will do my utmost to get the book finished so everyone can get a copy.

On Wednesday afternoon we begin our drive to the FC Roundup. We’ll be on the road just under three weeks. We’ve got several tours, a giant fork, a wild west town, an art museum, a ride in a GPW, dinner on a plane, a photo op with a (mostly) naked book seller, lunch at 13,000 feet, and much more planned. Of course, we’ll also have a busy couple days of FC fun at Jesse’s.

This is a rough map of our planned trip.

On another note, I’ve printed seven “proof” versions of my next book. I plan to do one more sweep through the book to refine it, build an index, and look for errors. The book is a non-fiction 450-page book that has nothing to do with jeeps. I hope to have the book finished by the Fall of 2016.

1944 Photo of Holden Ambulances in Saipan on eBay

• CATEGORIES: Features, Old Images This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Great press photo of a couple Holdens.

“1944- Willys Jeeps, fitted with stretcher racks, pull up to this wrecked Japanese building on Saipan which the U.S. Marines are using for a hospital. The zig-zag camouflage didn’t help much as evidenced by the hits scored by Naval and artillery fire in the early part of the campaign”

Florida Power Company’s Willys Trucks

• CATEGORIES: Features, Old Images, Old News Articles • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

The March 1956 issue of Willys News featured the Florida Power Company’s grounding-rod driving unit attached to Willys trucks. A long article follows the photos. There were at least four of the speciality units produced. I wonder if any exist?

1949 Book Jeeper’s Japan $60

• CATEGORIES: Books, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  Jay has got this book for sale. Comment below for more info.

It is Jeeper’s Jeep by Francis Baker.  Here’s the description:

“Tokyo: Toppan Co, Ltd, 1949 FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING, of a charming collection of satirical genre prints à la japonaise: These are meant to represent some of “the humorous experiences of the occupation which the Jeep–certainly a symbol of the period, has enabled it [ie, the Occupation] to see.”

The author has recorded her impressions of American occupied Japan and various scenes of the occupation as she travelled the country by Jeep.

In all there are twenty-four prints accompanied by doggerel couplets on facing pages, together with two additional prints on the covers. The artist is best known as Frances Blakemore. She grew up in eastern Washington and worked mainly in Tokyo (both before and after the war), where she founded the Franell Gallery and published the standard Who’s who in modern Japanese prints (1975).

Binding: Publisher’s quarter red boards, color-pictorial sides, pictorial endpapers, all edges trimmed & plain

Condition: Spine barely chipped, inside clean, joints cracked but holding, outisde has shelf wear. AN UNUSUALLY VERY GOOD COPY of a scarce and fragile book.

Pictures include front and back of book, inside cover page, one of the full page drawings, and prologue.

Very rare I know only of one other in existence

51 pages 24 full-page color illustrations 179 x 262 mm, 10 1/4″ x 7 1/4″

There is some great Bountiful Jeep Posse info at the Utah State Historical archives.

1. Early video of Jeep Posse in action. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to embed the video on this page, so …. Click on the photo below. A play button will appear. Click on that and a popup window with the video will appear. Neat video worth a view.

My lovely wife took me to my cousin’s party tonight. The good news is I had a few drinks. The bad news is that, because of the drinks, there will only be a few updates today 🙂
