Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “44 tapered offset rear. dana 44 front with 30 ends and axels, New Master cylinder with 11″ brakes, brakes worked good when i bought it. Two desert dogs on super offset wheels, buckshots in the front. Fiberglass willys body and nose, both need some fiberglass work. Roll cage ready to weld back in as soon as you throw on the body. ”

The February 1963 issue of Popular Mechanics included an article about the New Mexico Jeep Derby held annually in Truth or Consquences, New Mexico. It’s a great article about the early days of jeep racing. I’ve also included a video of one Derby race, but the quality is poor. Still, in some clips, you can see just how much the co-pilot shifts his body around the jeep.

Looks like a simple Dana 18, but I’m guessing it’s been modified based on the seller’s comment that the transfercase is worth more than the asking price.
“Hi guys looking to sell a Aluminum body sand dragster Jeep. It’s just a rolling chassis. There is no motor but does come with a direct drive transfer bolts right up to a BBC or SBC. Comes with a few parts. It’s definitely a project but be sweet for the drags or dunes. I’m asking $1800 O.B.O the transfer is worth more than that. And no trades please cash only”
