1950 CJ-3A Weldona, Co eBay … “Nursey”

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3A This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This is Nursey.  She has a few bumps and rough spots, but might make a nice little run about jeep.

“This little gem has been in our family for about 30 years.  Originally bought by my father who had a private hunting ranch in the Northern Colorado mountains.  He purchased it to help climb off road and retrieve their game. He was able to drive it everywhere, no matter what the terrain.  Because it is white, it acquired the nickname of “Nursey” because it always turned out to be just what the doctor ordered.  It proved itself as a real lifesaver over and over. My father became ill and had to move out of Colorado due to the high altitude.  He had to sell his ranch and all the toys, that is when I decided I wanted to buy it because I had recently re-located to the NE Plains of Colorado, and I never had as much fun as I had when I was chasing cows in the pasture with it. My husband and I have owned it since 1996. Now it needs restoration. We had the engine completely rebuilt and it only has about 500 miles on it.  It has the original engine and drivetrain, and everything works.  Runs like a watch, except the motor needs a new water pump…..”

1951 CJ-3A Arlington, WA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3A This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

1951_cj3a_arlingtonUPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4000

Here’s a flattie with some very large tires.

“1951 flatfender (grey, white, black forest camo paint), 231 buick V6 ( just installed, runs great), 4 speed tranny, 38″ super swampers (95% tread), On-board air: front bumper is an air tank w/ quick disconect to run air tools, locker front and back (not sure what kind, I just know from wheeling it it is locked up), CB & CD radio, Dual fuel tanks, 1978 tandem axle trailer (doesn’t look great, but trailer is very solid. I use it every year to haul jeep, 1 four-wheeler, and 1 motorcycle), I would like to sell these together, but I will sell jeep only (make offer). If I sell the trailer I can’t haul jeep.”

1952 CJ-3A Boise, ID **SOLD**

UPDATE:  **SOLD** Was $4000

UPDATE 2:  I stopped to checked this jeep out on my way home this evening.  There are corner post holder holes (it’s too late for me to remember what the correct term is) on the rear corners, so I can’t help think the body is a CJ-2A.  Though not perfectly straight, the body appears rust free.  I saw no rust underneath along the hat channels either.  The Data Plate looks brand new.

PNW4WDA Summer Convention Starts Today

• CATEGORIES: News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

summer_convention_tshirt2009The Pacific Northwest 4WD Association’s Summer Convention starts today.  I had hoped to go as it is the Carter’s (long time family friends and jeep cohorts) 40th anniversary of their first summer convention back in 1969.  I think I was there too, which would make it my 40th anniversary as well, because I think it was a Wandering Willys Club Event if I remember what my father told me correctly, however I was only four, so don’t remember a thing.

There will racing all weekend, including barrels, drags, team relay, obstacle course, cross country course, and something called a side by side (?), but I haven’t figured out what the heck that is.  So, if someone could explain that to me, I’d appreciate it.  Thanks!

It runs from the today through Sunday at the Straddleline ORV park near Olympia, Washington.

The White Mice

• CATEGORIES: Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, MB This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This excerpt is from an article title White Mice, which is about policing European highways during and after the war.  Included is a MB painted in the distinctive colors:  White vehicle with a black hood.  If you go to the website article,  you will see a variety of cars with this motif.  This would make an unusual restoration project.

The 62nd Military Police Company was created on November 30, 1943 and activated in North Africa a day later. Originally, it was a standard combat MP unit, and participated in the campaigns in France, the Rhineland and Ardennes-Alsace. Following the end of the war, the unit was reorganized twice, first as the 62nd Military Police Service Company in June 1948 and then as the 62nd Military Police Highway Patrol Company on September 20, 1951, when it was reattached to the regular Army forces occupying American Zone of Germany.

Corporal Edward Olson in a Highway Patrol Willys MB. Note the permanent roof and the large combination siren-warning light on the fender.

Unlike standard military police units, the Highway Patrol was created not only to enforce laws and regulations, but to handle other duties typically handled by civilian police agencies. These included assisting motorists and promoting traffic safety. On a given day, a trooper might work traffic, investigate a crime, or perform escort duty for a convoy. Or all three, just like his civilian counterpart.”
