Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. It’s complete and runs, but need work.
“Decent condition 1948 CJ2A. Seats need to be refinished but frames are still there, and some body work will have to be done in the normal areas. Has spare tire carrier on back gate. Has full hard top. Started to break it down for restore but another vehicle caught my fancy. Engine smokes a little and carb has been taken off to soak. All the parts are there.”
Here’s a very unusual Go-Kart/Toy/Lawn mower (strange combo) on Ebay for $9,995 that was spotted by a reader. I did a quick search to see if I could find the museum that houses the other one of these prototypes, but couldn’t find it. I have no idea what this is worth or whether this is really what the seller says it is.
“For sale is a unique Jeep Jr. built by wheel horse for the Jeep company in 1978. Only three were ever made. One is on display in a museum, one is destroyed, and one is sitting in my garage. The Jeep Jr. runs and drives and has been well maintained over the past thirty years. This Jeep is truly a collectors item. This jeep jr was produced as a prototype in 1978 for American motors and is an actual lawn mower. The jeep goes pretty fast up to 25 mph, and even faster if set up right. Perfect for car collector. Can be driven on street or grass….”
Here’s what looks like a very good price on a CJ-3B that includes an Overdrive.
“This is my old Jeep CJ3B. I’m the second owner, and I purchased it in 1998 or so.
Its factory PTO, winch, and overdrive. The winch has a broken foot which I was going to repair, but I figured I’d let the buyer do it (I can still do it if ya want!)
The jeep has a straight 6 conversion engine from the 70s. Its a 232. It runs good, but I have no idea what the mileage is on it. Its factory tranny (3 speed) and transfer case (twin stick). Lots of tread left on the tires, but they are several years old. BFgoodrich 33×9.50×15 on chrome rims. The jeep has a Dana 44 rear and a dana 25 or 27 front (closed knuckle). 5.38 gears. I’ve got another d44 for the jeep that has a warn full floater conversion on it and a lock-right in it. It works great….. The jeep is $1500 obo. ”
Here’s a CJ-3A that still has the 6 volt system. This might be a good find if you want to restore a CJ-3A without too much work.
“This is a very nice original jeep. (very rare). Most have been modified heavily. The only thing modified are seat belts, roll bar, lockout front hubs, and of course wheels and tires. The original engine, transmission and transfer case are still under the hood! It is still 6 volt with a new battery. I had the clutch replaced a few months ago and the mechanic didn’t do it right so I haven’t driven it since then. I knew I should have done it myself!!! It wasn’t aligned properly so it has a vibration. I haven’t had the time to fix it myself and I don’t trust anyone to do it for me. It needs a new accelerator pedal linkage and he’s ready for all of the fun you can handle … Anyway thanks for shopping by and you can call or text me at my cell# 214-616-9911 (yes I do live in OKC, just haven’t changed my cell phone). I just don’t have the time to keep Willy up and would like to see him get a new good home.”
Here’s an old Willys Toy Jeep
“Vintage 1940’s Willys Jeep from MARX Toys. Closet fresh. Jeep measures 11 1/2″ long hitch to front bumper, 5 1/2″ wide and 5 7/8″ from wheel to top of windshield. Push on the steering wheel and the horn honks. This toy was definetly played with in it’s day, but very cool…. ”

“1941 Willys Jeep, 4 cyl. flathead engine, tow bar attached, original gas tank w/cap under seat. Restoration project that never materialized.”
A reader asked me to post this for his friend. This CJ-7 includes a fiberglass body.
“This is a 1976 Jeep CJ7, 6 cylinder, auto trans. The Jeep has a nice Four Wheel Drive Hardware Fiberglass body which cost $2200 new), it has two hard tops, two sets of hard doors and a full soft top. The bad is that the frame is shot and will need a replacement. If you have a CJ7 project going, this would be great for the body and other parts. Call Bill 330-808-224six ”
It looks like a tiny periscope sticking out of the hood. Otherwise this looks solid.
