Jeep42.net Website — Some Great Pics

• CATEGORIES: International, MB, Website This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

I believe the author of this bilingual (french/spanish) site (jeep42.net) about a 1942 MB is from Europe, though I didn’t get a sense of exactly where they were located.  Neither my French nor my Spanish will save me in an emergency, let alone let me navigate a site about jeeps.

Fortunately, the excellent pictures make the site worth visiting even for the most linguistically challenged of us.  I especially liked the pic below (there are other pics that provide similar comprehensive views of parts).  If anyone knows who operates the site, I’d gladly add their name here so i can properly credit them.

1952 M-38 Cusseta, Ga $6000

• CATEGORIES: M-38 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

1952_m38_cussetaThis looks to me like it’s original, that it’s never been restored.  Given it appears to have under 10k miles, it seems to be an uncommon find.

1952 M38 original condition except for 12v conversion. Was Stored in warehouse for over 30 years. Has some rust. Still has 1952 tires on it, original military markings and less than 11,000 miles on odometer which appears to be original miles based on the way it runs and drives. Have new gas tank but have not installed it…”

A Brief History of the Cannonball Run

• CATEGORIES: Features, News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

cannonballToday, as usual, I was browsing CNN when I came across a list of the ‘10 best’ car chases on film.  I’m not sure if these really are the best 10, but one item that did catch my eye was the note attached to #10, the Cannonball run about George Baker.

I’d  heard of the Cannonball Run, but didn’t really know anything about it other than the casual reference to a movie by that name until last summer.  One day last summer I was browsing the new books section of my library and came across a book called The Driver, by Alexander Roy.  That provided me some background on the race, with which I’ll end this post.

Note:  I’m no expert on rally racing or it’s history, nor much of an expert on anything at all, but I’ve never let that stop me from writing anything else.  So, here’s a brief Cannonball history for those that like this sort of thing.

Mr. Cannonball Express:

In 1915, Erwin George Baker drove a Stutz Bearcat across the country in only 11+ days (this was one of 143 driving records of various kinds he set).  The next year he drove a Cadillac 8 from LA to NY in only 7 days.  This feat earned him the nickname (or a reference of) the Cannonball Express.

The Cannonball Express was a reference to the fastest train, at least at the turn of the century, that motored between Chicago and New Orleans.  It’s the same train that was operated by the immortalized Casey Jones, who would be killed at the reins of the train, attempting to slow it before it crashed into boxcars.

1942 GPW/MB Spokane, Wa $7000

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB), MB This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

1942_mb_spokaneI’m really not sure if this is a GPW or an MB.  The writing left me confused.  It looks nice.  I think extending that bottom indent across the bottom of the body is an unusual feature (no doubt, part of a body fix). It appears well put together.

1956 CJ-3B Rocky Hill, Ct $1200

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3B This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

1956_rockyhillLots of good prices on the east coast today.  Here’s another one:  A running CJ-3B for $1200 (at least, from the description it sounds like it runs).

“1956 Willys Jeep CJ3B. 4cyl 134 cuinch F head motor is good, driveline is solid. Tub is in bad shape where seats (used to be) mounted. Frame is good, and hood, cowl, winshield and frame, front fenders are good. Has original factory heater and full lighting package. Original 6v system. Rear tailgate and rear deck are good. really just needs the tub taken off and re-done.
Has been sitting in a barn waiting for a restore for many years. Call Pat 781-706-7211.  No tire kickers please. This is a 50+ year old vehicle that needs work. Thanks for looking.”
