1961 Mighty Mite Hartford, Ct Make Offer

• CATEGORIES: Mighty Mites This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

It needs work.

“I am selling my 1961 Jeep Mighty Mite. It is in very restorable condition and has very little rust. Possibly one of the most hi-tech Jeeps ever built, the Might Mite remains a little known enigma. The power plant of this little beast was an all aluminum air cooled V-4 engine. The engine was built by Wisconsin engine under contract for AMC. The 108ci engine would run on 80 octane fuel and would produce 55hp at 3600 RPM and 90 lb-ft at 2-3000 rpm. The engine drew air into the carburetors through intakes mounted on the side of the Jeep back by the cowl and often would have snorkels attached to give the Jeep a better fording depth. The engine had a mechanical fan that drew air through the front of the Jeep and over the engine while the exhaust gases were actually routed through the tubular frame and out a rear mounted tail pipe to expel the gasses from the chassis. The power from the engine was then routed through a 4 speed transmission with a “granny” ultra low first gear. Mated to the back of the transmission was a sort of splitter box to route power to the front with the flip of a switch. This box did not have a low range like many transfer cases do but it did have a sort of limited slip differential built into it to make sure that the power went to the axle that could use it. The splitter box did have a lever that had to be used to engage the front axle, other wise the vehicle operated in rear wheel drive. From there power went out to all aluminum Dana 27 center sections that were fitted with 5:38 gears and Power Loc limited slips at both ends. This impressive combination made the little Mite hard to get stuck off road. The brakes on this system were mounted in board up by the differentials instead of out at the ends of the axle and for it’s time this was very revolutionary. The power was fed through the center sections down to the wheels by CV style shafts which entered knuckles that were attached to the swing arm by a kin pin style knuckle. This design made the turning radius on the already very short vehicle super tight. The swing arms are supported by an odd suspension design that uses quarter elliptical springs to control the frame mounted spring arms. The springs are attached with u-bolts to the swing arms and then attached at the frame by shackles to allow the spring to flatten out at it flexes. The design is very effective if not some what unorthodox.

Today these little Jeeps are very rare and are not seen very often but if you are lucky enough to stumble across one, be sure to check it out and see what all the fuss was about! I have attached two images of my vehicle in it’s current condition as well as two images of a fully restored Mighty Mite for reference. I can be reached at 8609442659 anytime.”

Year? M-38A1D Phoenicia, Ny **SOLD**

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.

There seems to be a few items missing from this.

“For your consideration a VERY RARE 1955? Willys M38a1″D” army jeep in partially restored condition. Good running, with new brakes and civilian F-head motor, without the 24 volt accessories  The frame is nice along with the suspension modifications… Body has the original cut down and reinforced side, along with side mounted spare reinforcements.  Missing the dash plates..

You dont find these jeeps too often with only few in existence. ONLY 50 or so ever made! Your chance to own the rarest of the “A1″ series jeeps. This vehicle needs to be completely torn down, and restored properly. Floor boards will probably need replacement, as well as some body panels. Amateur restoration was done years ago to prevent further deterioration. Looks nice now, but is not professionally done.”

That’s one heavy duty bumper.

“1946 Willys Jeep. Does not run. It came with another that I bought to restore. That project is on hold and this one is in the way. Body is in rough shape but the frame appears to be solid. Would be great to build with fiberglass or new steel tub and modern equipment. $600 OBO. Call 803-981-2233.”

1946 VEC CJ-2A Hart, MI eBay

It’s been patched and not quite stock.

“UP FOR AUCTION IS MY 1946 WILLY’S JEEP, SERIAL #21813, MODEL CJ2A.  THIS YEAR RETAINS THE MILITARY STYLE WITH TOOL INDENTS IN THE BODY.  THIS JEEP IS READY TO BE DRIVEN AND ENJOYED AND RUNS GREAT.  THE PREVIOUS OWNER SAID THEY HAD REBUILT THE ENGINE WHEN THEY FIRST GOT IT.  IT RUNS WITH 40-50 LBS OF OIL PRESSURE AT 160 DEGREES WITH AN IDLE OF 20 LBS PRESSURE AT RUNNING TEMPERATURE.  IT DOESN’T SMOKE, SHIFTS GREAT, THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE HIGH AND LOW WORKS FINE AND THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY REDONE.  I REPLACED ALL THE WHEEL CYLINDERS, MASTER CYLINDER, BRAKE SHOES, BOTH STEEL AND RUBBER LINES, CONNECTORS, FITTINGS ETC..  THE ADDED LOCK OUT HUBS WERE ALSO COMPLETELY REBUILT, WORK GREAT AND IT HAS NEW SHOCKS.  IT ALSO HAS A NEW CLUTCH KIT, PILOT BUSING AND SEAL AND GASKET KIT INSTALLED.  IT’S BEEN CONVERTED TO 12 VOLTS WITH AN ALTERNATOR.  IT HAS THE ORIGINAL OIL BATH AIR CLEANER AND ORIGINAL SPLIT WINDSHIELD (ONE SIDE HAS PLASTIC INSTEAD OF GLASS AND SHOULD BE REPLACED).  THE DATA PLATES ARE ALSO ORIGINAL.  THE STEERING HAS ABOUT 25% PLAY, IS OK BUT PROBABLY A STEERING BOX REBUILD SHOULD BE DONE FAIRLY SOON.  ALL THE GAUGES AS WELL AS THE HEADLIGHTS, RUNNING LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS WORK EXCEPT THE SPEEDOMETER WHICH READS 33136 MILES, BUT THE TRUE MILEAGE IS UNKNOWN.  THE SEAT FRAMES LOOK ORIGINAL AND ARE SOLID.  THE GAS TANK APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH AN ORIGINAL STYLE OR NOS TANK.  THE FRAME IS VERY SOLID, THE HAT CHANNELS IN SOME PLACES HAVE SOME RUST BUT ARE OK, AND THE TIRES ARE FAIR (WEATHER CHECKED AND MAYBE 40% TREAD).  THE BODY IS PRETTY ROUGH.  THERE’S VARIOUS RUST SPOTS AND MANY DRILLED HOLES FOR VARIOUS TOPS AND ATTACHMENTS I’D GUESS (I’VE TAKEN LOTS OF PICTURES SO EVERYTHING CAN BE SEEN).  IT’S BEEN PATCHED ON THE FLOOR AND HAS SOME WELDED AREAS, BUMPS AND BRUISES.  IT’S GREAT AS IS FOR HUNTING OR AS A BACK WOODS VEHICLE, FARM JEEP OR JUST TO RUN AROUND IN.  I’VE HAD IT FOR A FEW YEARS AND IT’S ALWAYS BEEN GARAGE KEPT.  IF YOU WANT A PRINCESS, IT’LL NEED SOME WORK BUT COULD EASILY BE DONE BY ANY BODY SHOP.”
