1955 M-38A1 Lexington Park, MD $2000

• CATEGORIES: M-38A1 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

What surprised me about this was the floor. Looks like it is inside a kitchen! No title.

“For sale is a 1955 M38A1. I have not done anything to it other then get the engine running. I have videos of the motor running that I can send you if interested. Motor runs really good. Did a vaccum test and compression test on the motor. Vacuum test showed a steady 19 inches which falls into the correct range of 17-21. Test showed no signs of problems using steps from original maintenance manuals. Compression test results were Cylinder 1- 80psi Cylinder 2-50psi Cylinder 3-100psi and Cylinder 4-105psi. Cylinder 1 and 2 are low due to a loose head bolt between both cylinders. Block needs to be tapped to correct broken thread for that one head bolt. All other head bolts are good. Parts on the motor in video are not included, see pictures. What you see in the photos is what comes with the jeep. Hard to see in the pictures but included are fenders, grill, and hood. I do have additional small parts that we can discuss adding to the jeep if interested. Previous owner started the body work but did not finish and undercoated the bottom of the body. Still needs work but in a lot better condition then most projects. Glass in windshield is good. Check out other photos for the additional parts. Please email me for any questions or additional photos. I can provide more detailed pictures of anything you want. I will provide my phone # in an email if interested in talking. Comes with Bill of sale only.”

Year? CJ-2A? Coos County, OR **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A, CJ-3A This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: *SOLD** Was $3800.

(03/23/2013) The price on this looks good. The body looks like a CJ-2A/3A rather than a ’44’. The windshield appears to be a 3A rather than a 3B.

“My wife and I are getting rid of our beloved CJ-2A Willy’s Jeep. We have had this rig for around 10 years and have done a great deal to it. It still needs some minor work as all restoration go, but baby runs good and catches the eye. We have had it in the Ocean Fest Parade many times and we take it on rides to the beach, dunes and the hills. Never hot rodded and adult owned. It has the F-134 4 cylinder, new carb, water pump, head gasket, clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing, master cylinder, exhaust, brakes, bench seat for two extra passengers, roll bar, bikini top, spare tire, 5 gallon Jerry Gas Can, new gauges, new fuel tank, electric fuel pump, CB radio, and more stuff. The body was removed, most rust removed or treated, body was undercoated, frame was wire brushed down, treated with good quality rust kill, primed and undercoated. Paint is a Fountain Green with metal flake. several repairs on the body was done, but not perfect. We did it this way so we could use it and not just for parades or shows. We have 3 Border Collies and they love the ride. The engine is from a 50’s Willy’s. The tub is a “44” and the windshield is off a CJ 3B. Many Jeeper folks do that due to the look. We have a windshield frame that comes from the 40’s and the rig also comes with an extra Tranny with Transfer case and other extra parts that was on it originally. It also has a tow bar, magnetic lights for towing and small brush guard, mainly for the tow bar to secure it to when driving the jeep.
My wife loves “Smokey the Bear” and that’s what we put on it.

You can contact me at : willysdude47@hotmail.com When you do, put “Willy’s” in the subject box and I’ll know you’re real. Anything else will be considered spam and dumped where it belongs. Take care.”

Henry’s Performance (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo All-Wheel Drive)

henry-lasalmountains-moab1

Henry at overlook of Moab and La Sal Mountains

Gerald asked about our 2012 Grand Cherokee’s performance during our trip. He also asked if our jeep had a name yet. Yes, the jeep has a name: Henry. It was Ann’s idea, since most of her life she’s owned a Ford. We even traded in her Ford Mustang for the jeep (now there’s a great wife — willing to trade in her car to get a jeep!)

Henry has the basic Laredo GC with the 3.8 with the towing package upgrade. It has fulltime all wheel drive, but doesn’t have low range. We bought it with approx 4k miles for $28,500. Our goal was to have a mildly off-road, a snow, and a camping capable vehicle.

Having put 6,000 miles on Henry in the last five weeks we have found the jeep has exceeded our expectations. Rated at 23mpg we regularly get 25mpg at 75mph without air conditioning (it hasn’t been warm enough to run the air). The jeep handles well enough that I don’t miss touring with my BMW 540i. My BMW has better passing power, but I can live without that.

The jeep is well equipped for working in the passenger seat. Two electrical outlets allow me to keep my computer / phones/ broadband device powered. The windows could use some tinting to help reduce computer screen glare.

Not only are their cup holders in the middle, but the doors have auxiliary cup holders, which work well for bottles of water or empty cans. We really appreciate the door cup holders!

The jeep has the push button starter, which I’d never used, but really like! I keep the key in my pocket and Ann keeps one on her. There is no fumbling with keys to open doors or start the jeep. As long as the electronics and computer work over the long term I will continue to like this feature!

The packing capacity seems good. We’ll know just how good it is when I try to pack 2 terra tires into the back. My wife is convinced they won’t fit. I am convinced I can make them fit!

Here are a few pics of Henry offroad.

Testing Henry out in the sand. We didn’t want to get into sand that was too deep, but it drove through without issue.

henry-lasalmountains-moab6

To get here I had to drive over rocks and branches. Even without low range there we encountered no problem.

henry-lasalmountains-moab5

Of course the hill doesn’t look steep in the picture, but it was. We went down and up without any slippage. Now, if it were wet at all, we would have had problems.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

This June 1943 Automotive Digest has several jeeps ads.

“This is a nice original example of AUTOMOTIVE DIGEST magazine from mid 1943. In most ways it is like any other example of AUTOMOTIVE DIGEST, but this issue contains several nice ads from various manufacturers featuring a variety of World War II jeeps like the Ford GP, Ford GPW and / or Willys MB slat-grills, the standardized Ford / Willys jeep and the GPA or amphibious jeep.”
