Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (08/13/2014) Neither runs. The ad was posted in California, but the jeeps are in Seeley Lake, MT.
“2– F170 jeep forward control pickups sold as a pair. One is a parts rig the other is complete. both are 1959 F170 SOLD AS IS– the chassis with the engine was kept covered. Have never tried to start either engine, they both turn over. Usual rust on the bodies. $2000.00 OBO”
On Saturday I drove over to Seattle via Hwy 20 to Ethyl, Washington, where the Pacific Northwest Four Wheel Drive Association was holding the 2014 Summer Convention. While there, I got a chance to talk with both Herm and Marty Tilford, but spent most of the time taking photos. Turns out I could have used my wife’s help with properly setting the shutter speed. I did get a few good photos though.
On Sunday I got a chance to meet with Cody. A retired Marine Commander (hope I got that rank right), he’s a ball of energy who shared some great stories and insights. Though he doesn’t own a jeep yet, he’s been considering the purchase of one and has been reading eWillys to learn about them. Most of the year he lives in Taiwan, but is currently in the U.S. helping out family. He’s led an interesting life and we had a great chat.
Unfortunately, instead of spending Monday working on the jeep, I spent it not feeling well. So, I may return to Pasco on Tuesday for my wife to dote on me (hopefully).
Here are the pics from Summer Convention. The first two show’s Marty’s jeep just after the tire blew and his front driveline coupler broke (see it on the floor).
I wonder who “Pat” was and whether she was impressed with the jeep’s name? Looks like the photo was taken in December of 1943.

Seller listed this as a 1949 CJ-2A. May be a good price.
“I inherited this and I am not an expert on Jeeps. It is 12 volt and runs great. It is too hard on my back to keep but everyone who rides in it loves it. Price is firm , about 36,000 miles on it.”
Anyone recognize that winch? Looks like it might be a winch/compresser combo?
“1946 Willys Jeep CJ-2A. Red. All stock. Runs well. $14k invested plus labor, all done by former professional mechanic. All receipts kept in binder and listed on spreadsheet. Lots of value here. Has clean, restorable body w/some minor flaws (dents, paint chips, minimal rust); underbody in good condition. Clean title – pink slip in hand. Currently registered ‘non-op’ and uninsured. Oil can, crank handle, tool roll with tools. 150 miles on rebuilt engine. Runs and drives great, all gauges work. Will also include all parts to put it into US configuration including orig F marked bumper, spare canvas top, US Jerry cans.

Brakes aren’t working. Looks like it’s got a tall lift. Given the price, it’s worth a look.
