Some Days are Harder than Others ….

The plan was simple, fool proof, and, best of all, idiot proof.  But, alas, not Dave proof. The goal, attach my new ‘ewillys’ stickers to plates and attach them to the sides of Biscuit.

Step One: Have stickers made — CHECK.

Step Two: Cut and shape Ovals out of a street sign (note: not snagged from the subdivision down the street, but from a metal yard) — CHECK.

Step Three: Drill plates for mounting holes — CHECK.

Step Four: Attach stickers — FAIL … well, they are ‘stuck on’, but they have bubbles. That’s $50 down the drain — do over time.

See, had I made step Four “Check the internet on mounting vinyl stickers”, I would have been ok. But nooooooo, instead, I cleaned the plates with a degreaser (should have used soap and water), wiped them dry, and then stuck the stickers (should have sprayed some water and a little soap onto the plate and then squeegeed the sticker onto the plate).

Ok, lesson learned.  So, I bolted the stickered plates onto Biscuit, just for kicks.  I stepped back and took one look and knew I had screwed up, again — twice in one day!  See, I thought that hiding the allen bolts, which are black, along the black lines of the ewillys’ script would hide them. But this didn’t happen.  Instead, they disrupt the eye as you read the logo, both close up and from up to 20ft away.  So, now I’m really ticked.  So I mounted the plates to teach myself a lesson — don’t presume to know what you don’t, check the interet first!

When I cool down, I’ll get some new stickers printed, properly attach the stickers, and widen the bolts left and right.

Below is a blurry pic of the attached sticker.  I’ll replace it with a better one tomorrow  …. Hopefully, I’ll keep someone from making the same mistake 🙂

1947 CJ-2A Louisville, Ne $1900

This appears solid.

“This is a 1947 CJ2A, the first civilian jeep built. This jeep is pretty much complete and does run and drive. (smokes a little, especially when first started) It has the stock 134 flathead engine with 3 speed manual transmission, and 4 wheel drive. The body tub is decent and so is the frame. It would be a great jeep to restore! It has a new battery and I replaced the wheel cylinders and shoes, so the brakes work as well. Not pictured, but I have a complete set of seats with decent covers. I also have a hardtop that fits it for sale seperate. Call me for more information. Nathan 402-813-5312. I might be interested in trades…..”

“I have two Jeep CJ2A’s (?) that need to go to a good home. One is restorable and the other one is for parts. NEITHER OF THESE TWO JEEPS CURRENTLY RUN. Once again…..they DO NOT RUN. They need to be gone by the end of January or I will be forced to crush them for scrap. If you want them, please let me know. $800 cash for BOTH of them. I DO NOT have a title for EITHER one. Radiator and starter has been rebuilt for the green one so that I could pin point the engine noise in it which was a bad rod bearing. If you need more pictures, I will send them. If you want to call me, EMAIL me and I will give you my phone number. Better hurry because I need them to GO!!!! I think I hear the Jeep crusher coming now”

1948 CJ-2A Denver, Co eBay **STATUS UNKNOWN**

When someone lists a jeep as ‘professionally restored’, it is only natural that I’ll examine it a little more closely.  It appears sound, but sports an early CJ-2A grille, doesn’t have the bow holders, and is missing, as best as I can tell, windshield wipers.  The custom looks nice.  The strangest issue, in my mind, is that there is white paint around the edges of the gauges (probably just taped off the gauges), which doesn’t look all that professional to me.
