Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Update: Well, not so fast. I thought this was sold on eBay, but the deal must have fallen through. Now it’s back on eBay.
This appeared to sell on ebay for $9100 last month. The seller was asking $7500 on craigslist.
Restored CJ-3A with a few upgrades plus a Bantam trailer.
“1952 CJ2A & bantam jeep trailer. completly gone thru in 2004 jeep & trailer/new paint/new seats/new aluminum rims&tires/12 volts/also has back seat & 10″ x 2″ brakes. jeep & trailer both match in color/tires & rims.”
This is an interesting jeep with a variety of upgrades, including a ’45 (MB?) body on a 70’s CJ frame and running gear. Someone knew what they were doing. Given the upgrades, this price would be hard to beat if you had to built it yourself. I hadn’t heard of the Hyrdrovac brake system.

Dual stick transfer case with 2 wheel low option. Ford 300 in-line 6. Dana 30 front axle with disc brakes. Dana 44 rear – full floating with locking hubs for flat towing. 33″ tire with like new tread. 8000# Warn winch. power brakes – hydrovac system. Brakes continue to work when the engine stalls. One of the more interesting early modifications for water fording is visible in the picture below. Note how the jeep facing the reader has the exhaust vented out the front of the grill with the muffler laying parrallel to the grille. I can’t say I’d ever seen that before.
The CJ-3A.info page notes: “The recommended maximum fording depth of an unmodified jeep was 21 inches. That is about the height of the fuel pump and transfer case vents. Any deeper and things would start to fill up with water. Even at this relatively shallow depth the Technical Manual (2) advised that the generator brace should be “pulled up to release tension on the fan belt and stop the fan from throwing water over the engine”. That would be important in order to keep water off the ignition system. During a combat landing the 21″ maximum fording depth was not adequate.”

“1953 willys 3a jeep this is a project ,has dana 27 front and dana 44 rear,t90 transmission,dana 18 transfercase,2 inch rancho springs and rancho shocks,tilt steering wheel,rollbar,warn hubs,two gas tanks.Also have warn overdrive that i will sell for $850.00 “
The body looks like it’s seen some good work. The grille lights are unique.

“PROJECT JEEP : This 51 Willy’s jeep has a great running chasis and lots of new parts in boxes, including a new wiring harness. The motor is a 283 built .030 over and will start with a battery and some gas. Has power steering box already hooked up and 2 steering columns . All running gear has been gone through including axels and tranfercase and ROCK CRUSHERS TRANS .LOTS OF PARTS NEED to sell ASAP moving . If the Jeep is still here after Saturday it will be moved to 89 ave and bell rd. “

This jeep looks rough. The front clip appears to be tilting down a bit. The wheels looks good.

This jeep is all old school! it is a blast in the snow and mud, it just doesn’t quit! I really hate to get rid of it, but I have other hobbies and not enough time. Here’s a nice looking CJ-3A (though this would benefit from a different hood design).

I’m not sure what’s wrong with this jeep, but it looks pretty good for only $850.
