Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I thought this one had an interesting paint job.
“For auction is a 1952 Willys CJ3 4 Wheel Drive Jeep. Includes what appears to the original 4cyl. Flathead engine that starts, idles and runs well. The manual 3-speed transmission shifts smoothly. Includes good matching tires. Removeable vinyl top, that is in good condition. The speedometer does not work but the title dated in July, 2008 states that the actual miles were 62,500.”

“Need to sell husband’s project….a 1951 Willys. 252 Buick V-6 with high performance heads, T-90 A transmission, new 44 rear differential, 25 front differential, 538 gear ratio, new 33″ Wildcat EXT mud terrain tires and aluminum wheels, new paint, RCI bucket seats with new 5-point seat harnesses, tilt steering, all original body parts. “1951 willys CJ3-A project. Has rebuilt 2.8 liter ford v-6. I will try to post some pics. or can email pictures to interested buyers. I’ve had this jeep since 1987. I never seem to have the time and money @ the same time to fix it. Needs wiring, lights etc,,, I have access to a trailer and can deliver on the olympic or kitsap peninsula. $2995 OBO”
UPDATE: I do not know whether this sold or not. I’ll keep for historical purposes.
Obviously, these don’t appear every day. Note that this one has been stretched 6 inches, which makes it ideal for placing on a CJ-5 frame. It appears to have a solid back, like a DJ-3A.

“1951 Willys Flat Fender Jeep $2200 obo. Has 302 Ford V8 running with 4 barrel carb. Needs tranny and transfer case replaced. Have original trans and transfer out of vehicle (bad case and cluster). “

This jeep sports the same seats (driver’s seat and rear passenger seat) that I have. I could use those seat covers!
“set up for sand, 2wd dana 44 with 5.13 gears and a spool, ladder bars, 400 small block with 2.05 valve heads, screw in studs, guide plates and port work, roller rockers, aluminum intake, holley carb, th350 thrans with shift kit and 3500 stall, auto meter gauges, has been sitting for a long time and needs carb rebuilt and a few other things to run. $1500 obo or $800 with out motor and trans”
UPDATE: Price now $2900
The Pontiac 195, also known as a Pontiac 194 and the ‘trophy 4’, is an interesting engine built between 1961-1963. Apparently, it’s nearly as heavy as its 389 V8 cousin. That said, these were successfully modified for racing, including drag racing. While looking up the engine, I found the below jeep in several pictures on this website.
“1952 Willys CJ-3A with a Pontiac 195 (3.4l, half of a Pontiac 389 V8) slant 4 that runs great. New CJ-5 brakes/wheel cylinders, new battery, K&N air filter, Rancho 2 1/2 inch lift and shocks, 95% tread 31X10’s Federal All Terrains, new Besttop seats, good Besttop soft top, Smittybuilt XRC-8 Winch. I most of the receipts for the work. I will consider offers below 3000, but I will be keeping the winch.

This sounds like a very capable trail jeep. It’s worth a closer look.

Looks like the engine has been rebuilt recently.
