Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I’m just not sure what this is, but the pinto engine + header might not be a bad price.

The seller lists this as a ’49. It’s not, but with the 5 gauges, it is an earlier (pre Nov 1956 CJ-3B). Motor seized.
“Motor rebuilt 5 years ago, have all the original paperwork. Jeep has been sitting for 4 years; motor locked up. Body clean, no rust new fuel tank, foam filled tires.

It appears someone got a good deal on a parts jeep or project. This sold very quickly.
“The Good – 53 willys Jeep, late 60’s Olds V-6 motor – the motor and drivetrain seems tight and good. It is complete, was driven until 2000. Will need to be thoroughly checked out after being parked for so long. Rollbar is in good shape. Have the original owners Oregon Title, I got the vehicle from her son when I bought his house. The bad – no keys, the throttle pedal needs to be re-attached to floorboard, did I mention the brakes – need rebuild. Kids shot the windshield glass w/BB gun 2×3 times, tires are OLD, will probably need a distributor. It needs seats, the old seats are trashed. It has some cancer, but the diamond plate covers it well.”

“… Extremely original factory stock drive train, 4 cylinder F head, 3 spd transmission, model 18 transfer case, 6 volt electrical. Starts right up, engine is quiet, smooth, no smoke, runs, drives, steers, stops great, everything works as it should. Originally from Arizona desert so no rust, none, zero, body, floorboards, frame etc. are all completely rust free. New military canvas seats, 5 days old ….”

This is nicely ‘restored’, but there is some customization. The body is an aftermarket body and the builder added a few modern updates to the dash, including the radio. It appears to have a nice PTO setup.
“I am listing this Jeep for a friend of mine. This Jeep was a maintenance vehicle at the Federal center in Colorado all of its life until the restoration. I assume this is a willies, but not sure. It has been in numerous car shows and always draws a crowd. This Jeep features: Frame off restoration, New Dual, Exhaust, New tires, New top, Chevy V6 motor, Power Take off, 8000lb winch, 4 wheel drive, runs like new… Please call Don with any questions.”

UPDATE: Status unknown. The price had dropped to $2500. The seller included an overdrive with the cj3b.
The license plates suggest this jeep is from Colorado, though I don’t have any record of this being for sale recently. It looks pretty solid.

This has some good upgrades (toploader 4 speed, Overdrive, tilt steering, 11″ brakes). I think this might be a pretty good price if the body is in good shape (which appears to be the case).
