Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This looks like it was a racer. Now it’s a parts jeep.
“Selling a Willys jeep that I was going to use for a project but have bought something else so it needs to find a new home. NO MOTOR OR TRANNY! NO TITLE! It is 2wd right now but have a set of CJ axles I would sell also if someone was interested. Body is in decent condition and would make some good parts for another jeep or make a crawler out of it. Old engine was a small block chevy. I don’t want to scrap it out since there aren’t to many of these still around so let me know if you are interested. This appears to be a reasonable price given the completeness of the jeep.
“I am selling my 1948 CJ2A project. I intended to do a complete frame off restoration but it will be way to long until I can get to the rebuild and I have one too many Jeeps now. The Jeep appears to be completely original with a few exceptions. It has had a V6 swapped in what appears to me as a Buick 225 but I have not verified this. Original T90 tranny, Dana 18 t case, front Dana 27 and rear 44 are intact and serviceable (I spot only the expected leaks to be fixed). An aftermarket roll bar has been installed and what looks to be a 3″ suspension lift. All body pieces have the original Willys marks and the original serial number and instruction plates are present. The body is pretty rough however. It is badly rusted underneath and has some ‘bites’ of rust especially behind front fenders. I had planned to replace the whole tub after blasting a re-coating the frame. The frame has surface rust all the way around but I have not spotted any integrity issues (no corrosion through major stress points for body or spring hangers, etc.). The previous owner told me it was running as of a few months ago (as evidenced by a new fuel pump, distributor and wires) but I have not fixed her up enough to turn her over. BE AWARE: THE JEEP WILL NOT DRIVE OUT!! Buyer must be prepared with a trailer and way to winch the Jeep onto it.

It’s hard to tell much from the photo.
‘Mechanical condition ( very good ), four wheel drive, bucket seats, turning signals, trailor hitch, folding windshield, outside mirro on driver side, USMC decals on each side, 4×4 transfer case; two speed and is in parade condition Jeep. The Jeep was appraised on (9-2-09) by Classic Car Appraisal. The certificate will be turned over at time of purchase with the Jeep. The engine had a partial overhaul in 2007 and was painted about that time also.”

“1942 CJ2A, chevy v6, original tailgate, power steering conversion with ‘I did it’ chrome column, hanging pedal conversion, painless wiring conversion, oem brake lights, conversion radiator, turbo 350 tranny just rebuilt 3 months ago with a shift kit, lokar shifter, all new gauges, chevy disc brake system, dana 20 t case, tom woods cv shaft, dana 44 rear 3.73, dana 27 front, new body, original frame no rust at all, aftermarket metal body,hood and fenders, vin tags included, totally rebuilt, needs parking brake and exhaust from y pipe back, runs and drives like a champ, $5500, will trade for a BOSTON WHALER 15-19ft boat.”

This appears to be a nice CJ-2A. It looks like it is missing the rear bow holder.

Lew dropped me a note today telling me about this jeep he’d like to sell.
Lew writes, “I have a CJ2A 1946 Willy that I would like to sell. It is in perfect condition and 100% original including original paint, tires etc… no rust, nor rot and basically has been in a time capsule. I acquired it when I purchased a farm a few years back and it was maintained in a barn. It has a PTO and PTO Governor (no driveshaft). It has original canvas but no framework. “It runs and starts. Obviuosly needs to be restored. 4×4 works. Title and original VIN tag that states 1942.”
