Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Wayne points out that the skid plate was optional. This is one nice Renegade (though an imperfect restoration to stock). My only question about this is the lack of the protective skid plate underneath the gas tank that bolts between the back of the frame and the cross member in front of the tank (something my 1973 CJ-5 had). (here’s a stainless steel version of what I mean)

This Jeep was bought brand new at Galloway Motors on October 3rd, 1973 by Mr. Thomas Payne of Tucson. This Jeep has Southwest desert area its whole life and is completely solid and rust-free, and still retains its all original steel tub with no patch work. This little CJ has just come out of the collection of a 35 year Jeep dealer and expert who just recently completed a full frame off restoration on this gorgeous CJ-5. He stated that he believes the miles are original at under 40k, as he knows the Jeep was off the road for the better part of 25 years before the restoration. The vehicle has been carefully restored to like new condition!”
This needs the tranny reinstalled. Might be a good price. The paint scheme is unusual.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Were $7200
Looks like a flat fender body (mb? or vec CJ-2a?) has been dropped onto a 1979 CJ-5 chassis.
“Titled as a 79 cj5 but hav a 48 willys title that came with the tub. Has a 302 v8, t18, dana 44 front, custom 35 spline 9 inch rear, 4:56 gears and Detroit lockers f/r, wheelbase stretched almost 10″, all new wiring, gauges, custom seats, full cage, tilt steering, wildwood brakes and clutch. Motor has new water pump, oil pump, gaskets and seals, alum rad, optima red top, spring under, waggy spring up front, 4″ BDS springs rear, 35/12.5/15 BFG MTs about 80% and one for a spare. Body isn’t great. Only needs a little bit to be perfect. I drive this everywhere. Hate to get rid of it.
$7200 with hardtop $6200 without or may take a partial trade on good gas mileage car or truck. Got a soft top but it’s rough.”

Given the PTO and hardtop, this may be worth a look.

This looks promising and includes a rear PTO. In order to contact the seller, you’ll have to click on the “send note” at the bottom of the Craigslist ad.

Here’s an interesting build. The dash has a unique gauge panel.

Color: Porsche Atlas Grey Metallic. Front axel from 1977 U.S. Mail Jeep. Rear differential is same, 3:73 Dodge. 2008 GMC Sierra 4.3L V6, 4L60E trans, a new drive line. Frame axel and diff completely rebuilt and powder coated. Custom seats with mastercraft 4pt. harness, Ipod stereo, Dakota digital instruments, B&M ratchet shifter. Aeroquip fuel pump. Ididit tilt column, Marine speakers, vintage air heater, power seats, Ron Davis radiator, Sanderson headers. CASH ONLY,”

Sure looks like a dually to me. And, it includes an overdrive! This won’t last long. I suspect it had a wrecker or trencher on it. I wonder if it has a PTO as well.

“A very Rare find 1963 Willys CJ5 Open Body Jeep 4×4, not the mythical “Barn Jeep” but a “Shed Jeep” that is in great unrestored stock shape! Stored in a shed by & older man for years, he had it painted primer gray to repaint back to the factory Spruce Tip Green color but never got to that point. You can finish what he started or paint it what color you like. What u see is what u get, I didn’t even wash it for pics. Like it came from Willys, factory split 60/40 Green seats to the factory heater its all stock except for the primer paint. Odometer reads just 30k miles which the p.o. said is the true mileage. Based on what i can tell the Jeep has never been abused, cut or bondo’d, so I believe that statement could be true! This CJ5 is regestered with Arkansas antique plates. P.O. Has added a set of lights on bumper that are not factory. Runs & Drives
