Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Bruce spotted this unusual christmas gift for Nieman Marcus shoppers.
UPDATE: This was on eBay in March of 2011 and for sale in Pennsylvania. It has different tires now.
“1963 Willys Dispatcher DJ3A 2dr delivery car with 2-wheel drive, sliding side doors, lift up tail gate, very cute and has many applications. We were going to do a restoration on this and just don’t have time. This Jeep is pretty rough but comes with a set of new floor boards and we will accept any reasonable offer. The Jeep does not run, but the engine is not stuck. Both rear springs are bad and it currently has no brakes.upholstery needs done as well. We have the original chrome bumper and guards for the front (needs plating). It will need to be trailered for sure. <P> One of these in fully restored condition sold for $18000 on ebay last year. SO, if you want an ambitious restoration project with an upside, here it is. Call Bob for a good deal on this little, rare Willys.”

These are pictures from the previous auction. At the very least, the DJ-3A no longer has a license plate.

– DJ3A original Radiator
– Willys original front and rear differentials
– Willys original ross steering assembly includes pittman arm and draglink
– Roll Bar fits any flatfender Jeep
– Set of 4 wheels alloy with new tires

This looks quite repairable.
“Early 1950’s flatfender tub. Needs new floor and firewall. It’s either a CJ3A or an M38 – the dash has the single large gauge hole from the factory. ”

This appears in good shape.
“1964 Willys Jeep DJ3A. This is a hard to find 2 wheel drive jeep. It is in great shape. New brakes , tires and exhaust. Has a toyota engine and 4 speed transmission. This is a rare flat fender Jeep. One of the last ones built with the old body style. Runs well .and drives great. Body is in good shape.”

“The Auction is in Etters, PA just off I-83 south of Harrisburg and north of York. There’s more than 50 oldies to pick from including two DJ’s. In the picture it shows a DJ3A on the left and a LHD DJ5 on the right. Looks like the DJ3A shown in pix 35 and 36 has many usable part. Emailing the auction company got nothing back, so I’m assuming they expect it all to go for junk. Hopefully someone local can snatch them. No Titles, just be prepared to move ’em quickly says the instructions.”

Bill writes, “Another victim of Katrina….I wonder if I could get a government grant to restore it? Found 10 miles from the epicenter of the storm. Was under 20 feet of salt water, never washed off until years after the storm. A few rare parts and a LOT OF ROT..”
Glenn spotted this one. The flattie was being parted out, but only the frame and a few other parts are left. The body parts have been sold. I thought it was unusual enough that i would post it anyway. It appears to be part DJ and part CJ.
