This could be a DJ-3A.
“Also for sale will be a 1956 CJ2A jeep for parts … Friday October 1 and Saturday October 2 at 8 AM. Location is corner of 2nd and Washington.”

“Also for sale will be a 1956 CJ2A jeep for parts … Friday October 1 and Saturday October 2 at 8 AM. Location is corner of 2nd and Washington.”
UPDATE: This appears to have been sold (see comments). Was $750.
(09/07/2010) This is a rolling frame. Note that it has the Jeep Dispatcher insignia still on it.
“1959 willys dj3a jeep rolling chassis and body located in san luis obispo county on ranch .email for more info”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1300
(05/25/2010) The body appears in good condition, but hard to tell from this far away pic.
“I have a 1947 CJ-2A with a later DJ style body on it. It has the L-134 flathead motor, along with an upgraded Solex carb that many people swapped on to these engines. Has new carb rebuild kit, new spark plugs, new points, new electric fuel pump, new fuel lines, and about 80% left on some 31″ mud terrains. The bad news is a blown head gasket, however if you’ve ever seen one of these engines, it is probably the easiest thing to replace on a Willy’s, and despite this it will still drive around town, just not very far down the highway. It has some dents and dings, but verry little bad rust anywhere. Great for around the ranch or around town.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1600.
“This is a DJ3A jeep that’s had the CJ2A 4X4 Drive train installed. Original 4-134 flathead runs great, T90 3 spd trans and D18 2 spd transfer appear to be good. I drained and replaced the oil and it was Not milky (no water). I took the original (rare) DJ hard top off to use it for hunting, I still have it and it goes with the Jeep. Replaced the rubber brake lines and flush the brake system so it has brakes again. Original 16″ wheels with the spare. It is currently licenced but need the taillights fixed (wires) to be street legal. It’s a cool Jeep, just don’t have the time or money to do it justice (and space).”
UPDATE: Was $3600. **SOLD**
This looks good.
“1962 military style, 2 wheel drive, three on the tree, 4 cylinder flat head, rear seat, upholstery in great condition, garage kept past 18 years, 52000. miles, no rust…great shape! A fun ride !!”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4500.
Here’s a DJ-3A in good condition. I’ve only seen 2 other ’65s.
“Amazing but no rust ever or anyplace. It’s been sitting for a few years and has bad gas in it and doesn’t want to stay running. Flathead inline 4 with floor shift three speed. Fun time at the parade or cruise.”
Bruce forwarded me these unusual and rare posts cards of some unusual Surreys (here’s a compilation of Surrey & DJ info). Bruce has attempted to contact the Las Brisas Manager to learn if they have a historian of sorts for their jeeps in use, but he hasn’t had any luck. If anyone has any Las Brisas connections, please let me know! Thanks for sharing Bruce.
Check out the guy driving the jeep, a stick no less, carrying a tray of food!
Brian writes, “
These 2 jeeps offer clues but also leaves one with more questions. The extended tub, tailgate, baby moon hubcaps, valance panels, and an absence of chrome bumpers. Also, there was no date stamp on the card, but it looks to be from the late/early 50-60s.
On the back of the postcard, written in both English and Spanish, it reads Room service by jeeps- unique at hotel Las Brisas in Acapulco where every room a has it’s own pool.”
UPDATE: Price bumped to $2500. It appears the color has been changed, too. The top pics are newest.
(03/14/2010) Here’s a mostly stock DJ-3A and still has the column shift. The seller’s phone number is Seattle area number (prob cell phone).
“L134 hurricane engine, 3 speed on the column shift. Rear wheel drive 2X4. Runs good. passes safty. best offer. Call 206-218-7288”
UPDATE: Was $5000.
(06/01/2010) This is a little rough, but looks mostly original to my less-than-perfect eye.
“For Sale or trade a 1962 Willys Surrey Gala (DJ-3A) Original condition runs and drives, many new parts asking $5000 or would consider trade for any Jeep/Willys CJ, Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40, or Boat.
Many new parts, in good running condition. The following items are NEW: clutch & pressure plate, brake master cylinder, head light switch, dimmer switch, water pump, head gasket, fan belt, points, plugs, plug wires, coil, cap and rotor, rebuilt carb. Radiator boiled out and professionally referbished. Brakes have been gone through and new wheel cylinders kits installed. Drivers seat bottom was re-done with pink and white vinyl. All lights work, all gauges work, new tires on rear, good used tires on front. Jeep runs and drives great. It is missing the original top and top frame, spare tire holder and the rear bumper. Clear title.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3500.
For the condition, this looks like a good price. There just aren’t that many DJ-3As in good condition for sale out there.
“Pretty clean 1962 Jeep flat fender, 2 wheel drive, has top, runs and is driveable. This is NOT your normal rust bucket, 99% rust free!! Please call my brother, he is the owner.”
