“his is a 1946 Willys Jeep project. It has rust and dents.
It does not have a hood, windshield, grill, or fenders.
It is basically a rolling chassis with new springs and the body on it.
It is a major project. But it could be really cool.
I do have some extra parts for extra money if you want to see them.
Please give me a call or text with questions.”

Philadelphia’s Road Patrol Service

• CATEGORIES: Features, Magazine, Old Images This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This article in the June 28, 1948, issue of Newsweek covers how the Keystone Automobile Club’s three jeeps were transformed into mobile video units for the 1948 Republican and Democratic Conventions that were being held in Philadelphia.

Six months earlier in January, the same jeeps had been setup with radios to help manage road patrol issues (multiple news articles mentioned this), so adding television service expanded, albeit temporarily, the capabilities of the jeeps.

Last year we saw a different pic of one of the jeeps that is housed in Philadlephia’s free library:

1972 The Salzburg Connection Jeep Scene

Screen shot from The Salzburg Connection.

Bill spotted a scene with a jeep in the 1972 movie The Salzburg Connection (it might appear other places, as I didn’t have a chance to watch it). You can see the jeep scene between 41:45 and 42:35. It looks to be an MB.

By the end of the scene, the driver is deliriously (Psychotically?) happy. Maybe he was just really happy to be driving a jeep?

Here’s a photo that was posted to the IMCDB site:

Unusual Exhaust Modification

Jay just purchased a WWII jeep with this unusual exhaust modification. There are lots of guesses on Facebook about what it is or why it existed. Any thoughts?

(This is the only pic he currently has, as he is still awaiting delivery of the jeep.)

Year? M-38 Houston, TX $4500

• CATEGORIES: M-38 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Price dropped to $4500 for the holidays.

Autoquest Jeep is selling this vehicle. It’s got a replacement body, but the frame looks to be an M-38 based on the boxed front frame rails. For a good comparison of an M-38 frame vs. a CJ-3A frame check out this image from Was at the Willys M Jeeps site:

“** 1949-1952 M38 Willys Project Army Jeep, green/tan, 4 cyl flathead L motor, 3spd

Info we have is this M38 Army Jeep was restored about 30 yrs ago & was last registered for street use in 1992. Previous owner bought in 1993 to use as a hunting Jeep & was not registered for legal use on the road since that date. Was reported to be running when parked. We would recommend a full servicing @ least or a rebuild to get it back on the road.
