“For sale is a Willys Jeep M38 /CJ2A Arctic Top, Windshield Frame and Doors. Over all pretty decent condition, with all glass good except for rear hatch glass. All insulation still intact,as is original Tag. Windshield frame is very nice as are the doors with the exception of some of the window frame metal needed some work.

Ive been told these tops will also fit CJ2A model jeeps as well as possibly CJ3A models using the Windshield frame that come with top. Anyone have any info on this ill be happy to comment on this and ad it to listing. These Tops look really cool when mounted and with a little work this one would be a great addition to an M38 restoration, driver or Winter Wheeler.

If you do a search on Willys Arctic Tops you can see some great pics of this type of Top installed. Located in Storrs CT , and I will be happy to hold top until new owner is able to come get it. Could possibly ship through Fastenal but not sure as there blue line for shipping is down right now, so might have to be a You Ship type of deal or come and get it. $650 OBO”

“For sale is a 1947 CJ-2A Willys Jeep.

Sold as is, as a project, not running. Rolling and only somewhat complete.
Nothing left of the original drivetrain. (okay, it does have a Spicer 18 xfer) Body and frame are original.

Hasn’t run with this engine. Been outside, somewhat covered for 15 years.
CA title (lost), but the title is currently being replaced by the state of CA, hasn’t been registered in 25 years

Body
Solid but Bondo in few places, dings and dents (it’s 73 years old)
The bed has been replaced by a ¼” steel plate, welded in place, not flat
Glove box under passenger seat has been removed but will be included in the sale
Seat brackets have been changed
Original style (but newer) gas tank under driver’s seat
2A has fold-up (out) windshield
Some rust on lower edge of tailgate
Left fender pushed out to fit previous headers from Buick V6
Small hole, crudely, cut in firewall, to clear valve cover of Buick V6
Grill modified to fit larger aluminum radiator

Drivetrain
Engine – Chevrolet 4.3 V6
The engine has been fit to the engine compartment. Motor mounts in place. Radiator (new aluminum Ron Davis, 4-core, never used) in place with new mounts/front cross member.
Trans – SM420 (4-spd with a granny 1st gear)
Tower has been off but transmission has been covered
Xfer – Dana 18

Axles
The rear is currently a Dana 44 from a 1948 CJ-3A. The front is a newer Dana 44 (flat top knuckles). It has been narrowed 4.75 inches, professionally. Also changed to 5on5.5. I have the matching rear Dana 44 (not yet narrowed). It is an offset diff with a six-bolt lug pattern. Can’t remember what they were from, maybe a Wagoneer?

Steering
GM steering box relocated to in front of the grill, behind bumper

Tires/Wheels
White wagon wheels, 15×8. Very old 31-inch tires, good for rollers only

Misc
-Current spring over with narrow 1.75” wide springs.
(Rancho 1” lift, for CJ-2A)
-Might negotiate in other springs I have laying around.
-I have two sets of 5.89 gears for Dana 44 axles.
-Extra clutch assembly
-have a top, new in a box for 30 years
-Original horn (6v horn sounds great with 12v to it!)
-Dana 44 spool
-receiver hitch (Ford) for new rear cross member
-tow bar and mounting points for front bumper

I have a Warn overdrive unit that I will sell with the Jeep. It has not been mounted on this vehicle.

I have no interest in parting this out; I’d actually rather throw more parts in with it.”

Runnels-Wiggins Dealer Ads Feb. 1948 – Apr. 1948

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features, Old News Articles This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: The March 19, 1948, ad art was later used for this 1949 CJ-3A brochure.

The firm of Caver-Wiggins advertised jeeps for sale in the Pascagoula, Mississippi, Chronicle Star newspaper from July 1946 to November 1947.

In October of 1947, the Caver-Wiggins corporate charter was changed and the firm renamed to Runnels-Wiggins, with Julius Wiggins and Davage Runnels taking control of the entity.

In November of 1947, a week after the final Caver-Wiggins jeep ad, Runnel-Wiggins began advertising jeeps in the Chronicle Star. The ads only appear to last through April of 1948. No additional information appeared in the Chronicle Star about Runnel-Wiggins.

Later that year, in December of 1948, Coast Cities Motor Sales announced its status as a new jeep dealer in Pascagoula and began advertising in the Chronicle Star.

Below are some Runnels-Wiggins ads:

It’s got pretty dented fender, and a little damage in the rear, but otherwise seems like it’s in good shape.

“Runs excellent, no rust, body has some character. Has been stored in a garage at a mountain cabin. Great candidate for a restoration project or just a summer daily driver.”
