“Known as a rare “early” model, this particular civilian Jeep has the military tool indents on the driver’s side as Willys was making a running change from the military model to the civilian model. Later in that year those tool indents were deleted. Many new parts, too many too list. Jeep was kept mostly stock. This vehicle is a real head-turner and you will get smiles everywhere you go.”
This jeep was up for sale earlier this year. Somehow, I missed this David Tracy story about it on Jalopnik.

It’s rare to find these without a jeep. It looks in pretty good shape. It doesn’t seem to have the PTO parts included?

“Southern Jeep, Originally from Texas, restored in Arkansas, lived in Atlanta GA for 2 years. Has been in Michigan since April. Jeep has not seen dirt since in Michigan. Original restored driveline. Front/rear PTO. New tiger top, runs excellent. Could use a steering gear box. Perfect for ice cream trips. Car shows. Or cruising”
This appears to have a replacement body (no cowl battery box lid). The grille and frame also don’t appear setup for an M-38 grille. The hood looks M-38.
“1953 Jeep Willys M38 with L-134 motor. This truck came from Vegas and the party I bought it from got it from Arizona where it was restored in the 90’s. This Jeep is completely rust free and absolutely solid. The inner tub was rhino lined and the frame was painted. The Jeep runs great and idles great. I rebuilt the king pin bearings, steering knuckles, drag link and bell crank so it drives straight with no death wobble.
I also rebuilt the steering box and got a new NOS sector shaft for the larger Ross box that are extremely hard to find. New gas tank and fuel pump New battery Rebuilt drag link, bell crank, king pin bearings, steering knuckles New front brakes and wheel bearings Rebuilt steering box with new sector shaft Rear gas tank rack and 2 tanks The truck has a custom built roll cage with KC lights. 12 volt conversion, electronic ignition, rebuilt alternator, functional winch, tow bar and tachometer.
