Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Very early this morning we headed to Minnesota to pick up a new puppy. We won’t be stopping or sightseeing, as we can’t linger away from Ann’s mom for too long. I’ll have time to do updates, but my email/comment response time will lag.
This adventure was recorded in the April 30, 1955, issue of the Saturday Evening Post.
I think it is interesting that there’s rope wrapped around the front bumper on this vintage ad. I guess that was a ‘thing’ at the time.

“This is a 1948 CJ3A Willys Jeep with 4wd. It has a new rebuilt 327 chevy motor with a 4 speed transmission. Has custom seat front and rear. 12 volt system, stainless steel radiator, edelbrock carb. with electronic choke, custom wheel and Mickey Thompson Baja tires with less than 500 miles on them. It also had a chevy steering box and comes with a tow bar. Just installed a new gas tank. This jeep has a lots of power and the Body is straight and if you want a jeep where you can go anywhere this is it.”

Runs, but needs work.
“Selling my 1942 GPW. This is a script model GPW. It starts runs and drives but needs to be gone through. The electrical is still the 6 volt system and it is operational. The rear inner fenders were cut to move seats back and fuel tank was relocated to rear. The engine is a willys engine and the frame stamping shows as

The vin is also a low number 19_ _ _
I purchase about 15 years ago from my brother in laws father and never restored it. The engine was rebuilt in 1999 and runs smoothly
I believe one of the clutch or flywheel bolts have backed out. Clutch down no noise clutch up makes a rotational clunking sound
It spent most of its life in Twain Harte so we know its history back to the 60s. Have some extra parts
