The slogan is “Dig Deep” Help Buy A JEEP, but there’s no shovel mounted on that particular jeep.
“1943- Jeep in the hotel lobby at the Young Republican Clubs meeting in Albany used to promote the sale of War Bonds and stamps to buy a jeep. Sign on hood reads “Dig Deep – Help Buy a Jeep”.

Seth spotted this odd former postal-jeep-turned-jeep-rod. Whatever jeep it was you can see the spring hangers are wider than normal, meaning the springs were outboarded. That lends credence to the postal jeep theory, though it means the postal jeep upon which it was based was later than 1950s.
“This Jeep-based creation started out life as a Postal Jeep in the 1950s. At some point, a New Mexico-based artisan took that base and created this custom. It is now fitted with a 230 cubic inch Chevy straight six, agricultural-grade 3-speed manual transmission, and minimal suspension. This extremely low, stiff, home-built creation has a cool aesthetic that falls somewhere between single seat dirt tracker and 1940s tractor. It runs and drives and is sold on a bill of sale.”
