Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “1958 Willys CJ3B
This is the “High Hood” Jeep that replaced the CJ3A with the introduction of the Hurricane engine. That engine replaced the flathead Go Devil with overhead valves and a little more horsepower. I bought the vehicle in October of 2011 with the intention of a full restoration, but as I got into it I decided to concentrate on the mechanicals and make it roadworthy and reliable, then use it for light off-roading.
Since then I have just under $ 12,000 in it. $ 3500 up front, and $ 8200 in parts. Here’s a partial list:
• Full engine teardown and rebuild, mid 2014. Only about 600 miles since then. Rings haven’t even fully seated yet.
• Monstaliner bedliner on floor
• New speedometer and cable
• New gas tank
• New temp switch
• New carb
• New water pump
• Grab handle
• Heavy duty shackles
• Air cleaner hose
• New springs and shocks
• Headlight switch
• New u-joints rear
• New radiator

“1971 Jeep DJ-5 Right Hand Drive Postal Jeep, Has new 258 cu in. Engine and rebuilt automatic transmission. need’s some work like new steering box. Other then that its ready to deliver mail right now, has 14″ tires, manual brakes and manual steering, could also be a good vehicle for someone’s hunt camp. This Jeep has ALL METAL BODY ,, NO fiberglass, it’s heavy duty.”

Runs and drives, but has some rust.
“For sale 1960 Jeep Fc170. All stock running gear. Straight six “Hurricane” flathead, 3spd, Dana 53 rear axle, closed knuckle Dana 44 front. 4.88s. Has typical FC rust issues around interior of windshield, cab corners, but all there and pretty solid. Frame is really nice shape. Surface rust on it, but no issues. Would be a great canidate to restore, or drive around with beautiful patina. Runs and drives fair, Needs some minor repairs, but I have driven 100+ mile trips in it. $6000. O.b.o. have 2 house payments and need gone. Text/call with any ?s. Not interested in any trades. ‘
