Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “Up for your consideration is my 1952 Willys M38A-1, the military jeep that inspired the civilian CJ5. I purchased this jeep in the high desert in Southern California in 2011 and had it shipped to NJ when I moved to the east coast in 2013. Aside from the military I am the third owner since the jeep sold at government auction in 1971.
The original drivetrain is still 100% operational. Engine and transmission were rebuilt in 1956 while in the service in Japan, drivetrain still has military rebuild tags with information. Continue reading

There appears to be value here. It’s listed as a 1974, but it is pre 1972.
