Sounds like it has been disassembled.
“This is a 1949 CJ3A that I bought about 5 years ago for $600. I saw it sitting in someone’s backyard and made them an offer. I have pictures of when I found it and pictures of it at home in my drive way. Over the next two years after I bought it I started stripping it down to perform a frame off restoration. I was not able to finish the project and now I have the entire jeep you see in the picture in 500 pieces in my garage. It has the L-134 inline 4 cylinder motor, T-90 transmission, Dana 18 transfer case, front axle Dana 25 and rear axle Dana 44. Everything is original to the jeep. I do have a clear title for the vehicle. Best offer and a trailer takes her home. I could possibly deliver all the parts as long as you are within a reasonable distance of my house.”
This looks solid, but it sounds like the engine was rebuilt, but never got running again.
