Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. On the heals of yesterday’s GPA, I thought I’d do a brief shout out to the Schwimmwagen. You can read more and see more pics about the Schwimmwagen at Brian’s site. Here’s a pic (below) from July 12 1944 (from Brian’s site as well). Here’s some youtube videos.
This looks nicely stock. Only one pic.

The rear compartment is covered in diamond plating, so it’s a little hard to verifty the no rust claim.

Here’s an early CJ-2A (vin 18024) that appears in very good shape. Lots of pics, but not much of a description.

My sense is that this has some updates to the drive train, but i can’t tell for sure. The seller will take some unusual trades.

Lots of great upgrades on this CJ-3A. It kind of has that classic 80s build. It looks like there are two different paint colors on the body.

“1945 GPW. Faithfully restored and garaged for the past ten years. Runs like a top! Good to excellent condition – needs a left front leaf spring and muffler. Included is a new summer top (in package, value $250). Don’t forget…Memorial Day and the 4th of July are right around the corner!”

I like a lot of things about this jeep, but I don’t get the bumpers — those are bumpers, aren’t they? As far as I know, M-38s were stopped in ’52.

Here’s some before, during and after shots of my CJ-3A windshield rebuild. Special thanks to John for the vent bracket. Mine broke off and John created a new one for me. It works beautifully. I was able to de-paint and can reuse the windshield gasket, so now all I need is the glass and the cowl rubber and it’s completed. Necessary repairs included welding up 8 holes and welding the crack in the frame. Next, finishing the brakes.
