Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “1948 willys jeep like new rubber runs and drivers good. Jeep has P.T.O. and soft top plow not included but could be if you want it. I have another set of rubber I could put on the jeep for 400.00 less”
As mentioned yesterday, here’s a quick look at the 1943 GPW Darryl rebuilt. He did some beautiful work (both in building and documenting the build). He also built a trailer (pics below as well). He lists his objective below:
“To create for my personal use and enjoyment, a fully-functional, factory new appearing and extremely accurate “representative” WWII jeep using a new reproduction tub on an original, all “F-script” Ford wartime-production drivetrain, while containing costs and allowing minor deviations (a Solex carburetor) from the original configuration for ease of maintenance, reliability and safety and to be driving it within 12 months of starting the project.”

The body has been placed onto a ’75 CJ frame, which means something had to be stretched (or the frame chopped) to make the body parts fixed. It appears the builder stretched the body at the point where the body normally meets the fenders. Meanwhile, it appears the hood was lengthened somehow (I can’t tell quite how).
“1948 Willy’s on a 1975 Jeep frame. 360 AMC V-8, lot’s of new parts & Brand new Best top. Run’s strong. Fred 586-822-8468”
It looks like it has been in a barn. I can’t tell what the rust condition is.

I used to live in Madison and remember driving through the small town of Belleville. Given the lack of titles and the non-running condition, I suspect the price may drop.
“1948 and 1949 Willys CJ2A From Louisiana. Both are GREAT projects, not running, no titles, VERY SOLID!!!!! Most parts are here $2,000 takes both!”

This looks like it’s been nicely restored.

NEW 7.00 X 16.00 NDCC TIRES [NON DIRECTIONAL CROSS COUNTRY TIRES]. NEW MIL. SPEC CANVAS TOP AND SEAT CUSHIONS [M38].NEW IN 1999 STEEL BODY, FENDERS, HOOD, GRILL,WIRING HARNESS,GAS TANK. LOTS OF OTHER ITEMS REPLACED TO MANY TO LIST. RECEIPTS AVAILABLE. REBUILT T90 TRANSMISSION AND T18 TRANSFER CASE ….”
It looks like it needs a good cleaning, but I think it will clean up well.
“This Willys jeep was commisioned to Fort Polk. It had a rebuild in 1985.
Owner died in 1989 and the jeep was stored in a barn until four months ago.
I acquired it in an estate sale. Everything was said to be original when I bought it from the sale. As seen in the photos it is dusty from all the years being stored. The jeep was licensed and driving in the late eighty’s and has a clear title. I have extr tires, rims, and other parts that go with it. Any questions please call Mike at (504)417-4535.”

This might be the same one that was for auction on eBay.
“This 1963 DJ-3 has been restored to better than new condition and is beyond perfect in every respect. It is powered by Jeeps rugged little 134 cubic inch inline four-cylinder engine with three-speed manual transmission. More importantly it is festively finished in Flaming Pink and White with a Pink and White striped surrey top and spare tire cover. It is cheeky cute cheerful and fabulously restored.”

I don’t see any major issues with the body. I wonder if it will take much to get it running.

(modle 27 front and 44 in rear) with Warn hubs, power steering, stainless steel windshield, full roll cage, Recaro style seats, “Jackman” white spoked rims. No papers, sold as is or for parts. $1600.”
