Image Comparing Rear Seats & DJ-3A Seats

I was nearly done assembling this post (a post I started when I spotted the useful seat comparison image below) when I discovered that Derek already has a pretty complete post (and frankly better than mine was going to be) on the topic of rear seats (and was the actual source of the seat comparison).

But, there were still a few unanswered questions I had after reading his page, so I deleted what I had and reframed it as shown below.

I realized:
1) I didn’t know if the DJ-3A used the CJ-5 rear seat, the CJ-3A/CJ-3B rear seat or something else?

2) And, did the Surrey have it’s own rear seat or the same as the DJ-3A? (My guess, based on the pics above, and Bruce’s pics below, is that the DJ-3As and Surreys used the 3A/3B seat)

While my DJ-3A came with a rear seat, it was actually one of the folding rear seats from an M-38 or M-38A1, a topic covered in these two links:

“This little jeep has been great for my family over the years. We have primarily used it around our property, collecting firewood and doing other chores for the last decade. I purchased this vehicle from the original owner who bought it from a dealer in Glenwood Springs, CO. This is an original Colorado vehicle that runs and drives good. It can be used “as is” around your property or is a great start for a restoration project.

This nice looking DJ-3A has a few mods, such as the wrong tailgate, incorrect turn lights. extra rear bumper, extra gauges and some changes within the engine compartment. The history listed isn’t quite right either.

It used the body style of the older CJ-3A, along with the L-134 engine. Unlike the CJ-3A, it came with either a column shift or floor shift three-speed Borg-Warner T-96 manual transmission. 1961 Parkway Conversion Wagon Eatonville, WA $5000

The seller has done some research, discovering that this started life as a 2×4 for the Navy, but was then was refitted to be a 4×4 for the Forest Service (perhaps the Parkway Conversion was also implemented at that time?) .

“1961 Willys wagon 4×4. 4 speed with a Chevy small block. Vehicle has been stored under cover for the last 5 years until recently. There is some rust shown in the pictures. Hasn’t ran in 3 years and the rear brake line is bad. Does come with a tow bar and lights. Here’s a little back story on the wagon. Researching the serial number from Kaiser/Willys website this was a 2wd drive naval personnel carrier that was built at the end of the Korean War but never left the factory.

The government had Kaiser repurpose it for the forest service they transferred the body to a 4×4 chassis and sent it the forest service in Leavenworth Wa. I purchased it from the grandson of the man who bought it from the forest service. The original engine failed and was swapped out some time in the the mid 80’s. I don’t really want to sell but the wife wants a new house. Open to offers. Please don’t make a low offer I won’t be giving it away :-)”

1947/1948 CJ-2A(s?) Kalispell, MT **SOLD**

Based on the pics, it seems both of these vehicles are included? The ex-service station red one with the sears half-cab is definitely included. There could be value here.

“1947/1948 willys cj2a project 99% original and complete. Functional before disassembly. Was originally a Standard gas service vehicle from big timber. plenty of extras. Engine is a L134 go devil (ww2 gpw) runs and supposedly fresh rebuild. Start of PTO front and rear. Extras: axles, tranny and t case, 5 tires and wheels, fenders, grill, guages, gas tanks, window, hood, heater, generator, steering etc etc New hat channel, most rust has been replaced with fresh steel. Needs: some more body work Springs, wiring and some break work. 1500 OBO or trade.”

This has a dump bed. It’s listed as a 1956, but that seems unlikely since none were produced that year.
