1946 VEC CJ-2A West Jordan, Ut $4200

Brett spotted this one.  I like it.   Fortunately, he wants to sell it to serious restorers.

“This is what’s known as a VEC (very early civilian) CJ2A vin 21766 and has many unique characteristics. It is column shift, has the tool indents in the side panel, and five solid rims. This is an extremely nice, very original example that was sitting in a storage container in the Nevada desert for years. Very straight, nearly rust-free body, original keyed coil, door sockets (and door frames), gauges, wheels, etc. Mileage shows 81,079. It would be considered a project vehicle as I never tried to get it running, but appears a relatively simple restoration. It rolls very easily, steering is tight, and I’d bet with a battery, gas, and TLC it would fire up. It’s missing a couple things and needs some repair, but is remarkable for a 65 year old vehicle. The previous owner began a “restoration” and painted the windshield frame and hood but they should be re-done correctly. Selling to put time and money into an earlier 2A recently acquired. Many more photos available. Serious, restoration inquiries only please. Title in hand. Thanks!”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $29,000.

(11/30/2010) Bob spotted this really nice original restoration.  I’d like to see some better pics.  I also really like the color scheme.  I do have a couple minor, really minor detail questions pertaining to originality.  Wouldn’t the bezels have been painting the body paint color (though I think they look better in black)? Also, wouldn’t the rear bumper have had the dropped PTO connector angle (though I like the looks of the bumper that was installed on this)?

“Early production column-shift model 20670.
Ground-up restoration to original condition. The jeep has the original 134 cid in line 4-cylinder engine, column-shift T90 3-speed manual transmission and transfer case. Every piece on this classic Jeep has been disassembled, media blasted and rebuild, reconditioned, or replaced to achieve its as new condition. This Willys has been finished in the correct Harvest Tan color with the corresponding orange wheels. ”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

(09/12/2010) This seller sounds like he has a couple jeeps. Last year he drove back a ’46 CJ-2A from Oakdale to Winnemucca (when it stopped running).

“Selling 1945 willys jeep CJ2a. Last fall put on new tires, seat covers, correct muffler and hardware.Original items: Military style steering wheel, horn, oil filter, windshield tiltout hinges, and military rearend. Has correct windshield fold down wingnuts, vaccum wiper, passenger manual wiper, oil filter, spare tire mount, tailgate chains and Original oak blocks on hood. Frame solid, battery tray in good shape, has generator shield, master cylinder shield and working parking brake. All lights work, including dash light. Engine # 11594, located  on right side of block behind oil filter, Body #1428, taigate #1428, serial # 11325, on dash and frame. tags on firewall missing because of, you know what, heater mod. and differentials I can make out date 45. Column shift missing and floor shift installed. T- 84 trans was used, which pretty much makes this a full WW-II chassis.”

Milleage is 66,900. After being around this jeep, I believe it to be original. Thats my guess, it may not be. Original color paster green, autumn yellow rims. Engine does smoke a little, It’s a WW-II smoke screen option, LOL. Floors solid, a little rot on bottom of hat channels ( very minimal) Steps are solid and hold when stepped on. Any questions please ask and left room for more pictures if there’s something you want to see. This jeep has ‘nt been restored, it’s in its original shape after 65 years. Thanks.”

Here’s a VEC #12110 that’s been militarized and ‘stickized’.

“This is a complete frame-off “down to bare metal” restoration of a VEC CJ2A Willys Jeep, S/N 12110.  A jeep restored like this by a shop would cost well over $40,000 counting all the hours of “love” that went into the project. We took great care to ensure this jeep (which was manufactured on the same line as the last military jeeps) maintained as many original components as possible.  Restoration began in December 2009 and we just completed it in August of 2010.  You can see by the Buy It Now price that my reserve is between the starting price and the BuyItNow.

The original content of this jeep is about 95%.  The jeep has the original (although converted to stick) column shift transmission.  Everything on this jeep is completely restored or rebuilt.  Please see pictures. We have many more pictures of the project from start to end.  We have all receipts and documents and research and will provide a detailed book of the restoration process, all receipts and history of this particular jeep.  The numbers on the hood are referenced from the Military database for this VIN number.  Note that prior to our purchase of this restoration project, this jeep had the Leaf Springs replaced and also the Shackles were changed to a modern version by the prior owner. ….”

“I have two Jeep CJ2A’s (?) that need to go to a good home. One is restorable and the other one is for parts. NEITHER OF THESE TWO JEEPS CURRENTLY RUN. Once again…..they DO NOT RUN. Radiator and starter has been rebuilt for the green one so that I could pin point the engine noise in it which was a bad rod bearing. If you need more pictures, I will send them. 1942 MB Slat Grille Sun City, TX **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: MB • TAGS: , , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $20,000.

Looks nice. It is a no glove box MB.

“¼ ton 4 WD General Purpose Truck by Willys
LATER KNOWN AS A “JEEP”

Original, numbers matching 4 cylinder 60hp, 134ci L-head (Go-Devil) engine. Early SLAT GRILLS had no glove box, they had a round muffler, oil bath air cleaner and filter, rubber hood bumpers, solid wheels, three bolts spare tire carrier, no blackout driving lamps, no gas can holder, makers name was embossed on the rear panel and a slat grill on the Willys. As noted by the S/N the Jeep is an all original slat grill. The air filter is original to the jeep and is known as an oil bath air cleaner. The frame and body parts are all original (I have pictures available upon request).

The wheels are not “Combat Wheels”, but civilian wheels. Combat wheels were “Not of Issue” on prototype Jeeps. The reason being Willys also made cars prior to “¼ ton utility trucks” standards set by the US Government. To meet the demands of the government contract, they had to bid the entire Jeep under $400.00 a unit and in order to stay under budget; they sold themselves Willys automobile wheels in the very early production (VEP JEEP) versions.

Jeeps were notorious for not stopping very well, so I used 1954 Ford brake drums and pads to make them safer on the street and in parades.

I also converted the original voltage regulator/electrical system to a modern day 12 volt electronic ignition system for added dependability. The early Slat grill had no spare tire holder or exterior gas can.

Only 200 slat grills are estimated to have survived through 2006, according to Army Motors, the official magazine of the Military Vehicle Preservation Assoc.

The last Willys Slat Grill was S/N 125807, this is S/N 124833 and was delivered to the US Army on March 5, 1942. Full restoration was completed 2009 and she has appeared at hanger dances, parades, Veteran’s Day events, air shows, USO shows. It is a show vehicle, not a ramble through the brambles and the bushes jeep. It is “period correct” complete with 48 star flag, all canvas top, shovel and axe attached to side, and a copy of a M1 automatic carbine for the dash. I’d challenge any potential buyer to find another Jeep in such good shape, with all the parts present and as nice as this one. If it were perfect, it would sell in the neighborhood of $40,000 just like the Barrett-Jackson Jeep did last month.”

1945 VEC CJ-2A Mukwonago, Wi **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1500.

Here’s a VEC #11500 for sale over at the CJ2A Page (Thanks Bill).

This Jeep has no title.  The transmission was switched to a later floor shift version.  The transfer case may, or may not be original, the early style 4-rib park brake drum is present.
The engine is not the original chain engine, but it is a low serial number CJ-2A 33843, it looks like an early 1946 engine in it.
