Tonka Jeep Limited Restoration and Parts in Minneapolis, MN

• CATEGORIES: Features, Website This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Please check the comments about this service. Some readers have encountered issues with Tonka Jeep.

Wally wrote me the other day to share information about a vintage jeep restoration and parts shop called Tonka Jeep Limited. The business has only been opened since 2012, however their service guy has more than 40 years experience working on jeeps. You can learn more about the company via the website or the Facebook page.

Tonka Jeep Limited started in 2012, following twenty-five years of being a vintage Jeep owner as a hobby. Our product and service offerings cover all Jeep and Jeep variants (Jeepster, Truck & Wagon) from 1941-1955. We’ve grown steadily, by offering hard to find original parts, NOS, as well as all reproduction parts. Along with parts, we offer complete rebuild services on all mechanical components. Restoration services are offered exclusively on both civilian and military Jeeps. Parts can be ordered through our website, or by email inquiry. Our means of contact is unique, as we don’t take phone calls, we found email contact to be faster and a more efficient way to service our clientele; our response times are usually same day, however, twenty-four hours is standard. Many have asked if we have a shop or store to come by and visit; for now no, but of course if you want to pick-up parts, we’ll gladly direct you to one of two locations, where inventory is stored.

Our website is: tonkajeepltd.com and email address for questions and ordering is; sales@tonkajeepltd.com

Here’s a photo of their promotional and work jeep, a 1943 GPW:

The photo is of the owner, after an all day product shoot for the website; the back-drop is a hood from a 1950 6 cylinder Station Wagon in the original Jamaica Green and yes, it is in excellent condition and for sale.

This 1942 GPW was listed for $500 in May of 2012 in Azusa, California. It was quickly purchased and sent to England where Chris got a hold of it and transformed it back into an original looking GPW. An antiques dealer in old garden classics, he seems to know a few things about old jeeps, too. He’s forwarded some photos so we can see the before and after pics.

Chris was wondering if anyone was familiar with the 51st Defense Battalion? I found this link and this link, but if anyone has additional information, he’d like to know more.

Here is the original ad:
“$500 OBF
This is a Ford produced version of the Willys MB “Jeep”
Forced to Sell. Neighborhood Association says it can no longer stay parked under our carport.
No current tags. It’s been on a CA DMV NON OP since the 90s.
Body in fairly good shape. Looks like it was never repainted. Military marking on left side of body:
51st D.B.
Not Running. Missing starter. Bad Water pump.
Has tow bar.”

1944 GPW Boise, ID **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB) This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  **SOLD** Was $1200

This is a GPW tub, but is missing the glove box?

This is 1944 Jeep from World War II made by Ford. In the pictures its the one that is green (red one sold long ago) It has the original drivetrain but engine is sold, sorry. Trans is WW2 T84 trans and Ford Transfer case. Axles and steering are original. Windshield, bumperettes and many other parts are present. it’s a project that needs restoration. Transmission case is usable but needs a rebuild. Seats are not original to the jeep. Front frame horns will need repair. have aftermarket parts like bumper, fuel tank sump, hat channels etc that will go with it for free. Have an extra tub for parts. This jeep looks good in pictures but lots of bondo was used by someone. Lots of small misc parts and canvas for seats will go with this. Have bill of sale only. Frame serial number confirmed is 198348. Data plates are missing. Would consider parting it out. Bill of sale from me and previous owner. have not taken the time to get a title. If this add is up then its available.”
