UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1000.

I suspect this is a DJ-3A body on 1947 running gear.

“I have a 1947 Willys Jeep for sale. The floor in the front is pretty much rotted out. And the jeep looks rough. As it is just sitting out in the yard. But everything else is in good condition. Has a sq. engine in it and has a lot of good parts left on it and can be restored. I just need to move this. Will take a 1000.oo for it OBO. ”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $495.

(10/03/2010) This is listed as a 1949, but I am leaning towards that being a DJ body.  That looks like a good price.

“good body & floor. ”

Pics from past Chicago Auto Shows

• CATEGORIES: DJ-3A, Features, Old Images • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

The Chicago Auto Show website has an archive of images from past auto shows.  Some of the pics include a variety of different jeeps.  Some of these you have probably seen before and, hopefully, others you haven’t.

Last year Bruce shared documents which indicated Willys Motors planned to have a Hong Kong black and gold theme for 1960.  In the pics below, you can see the Hong Kong theme, but hard to tell what the colors are.

1951:

1954:

1959: (you can see a bigger version of the same photo at thefcconnection).  This must have been released as a PR photo.

1960: I thought the description on the bottom of this photo claiming the CJ-6 link was interesting.  I’m assuming the mistake was made by the person who assembled the auto show archives?

I found the advertisement below on Flickr. According to the information on Flickr,
this ad was for the 1960 Detroit Auto Show, but showed 1961 vehicles.

1961:  The Hong Kong Exhibit (though I haven’t quite reconciled the 1961 show date from  Bruce’s document).

1962:  Here’s something from International Harvester.

1964:

UPDATE:  **SOLD**  Was listed at $3150.

This might be a very good price on a DJ-3A.    The seller has this listed as a 1949 DJ.  I’d be very curious to learn the serial number.

“1949 Willys Jeep DJ 2-wheel drive 4-cyl runs good drive it home. Three speed on the floor new tires, new radiator and new battery 12volt system”

1958 DJ-3A Ozark, Mo *SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: DJ-3A This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1600.

This has a GPW engine in it.

“I have an old Willys flat fender Jeep 4×4. It is similar to a CJ3A. It is four wheel drive and looks like an old WWII jeep. It has a rebuilt flat head 4 cylinder engine. The engine is a Ford GPW engine with F-script bolts. It has been converted over to a GM style alternator and 12 volt. It ran nice when I bought it but I tried to adjust the timing and haven’t been able to get it to stay running well. Cranks over great. This is not a daily driver but a fun project jeep. I have too many projects and hate to see it go but times are tough. I DO NOT HAVE A TITLE !!!! I did a search on the VIN and it was titled as a 1958 DJ3A which was a 2 wheel drive version of the CJ3A. The body it has is that of a DJ3A and does not have the “lip” that you have to step over to get in. It has a canvas top and doors with it but the top will need repaired. ONLY SERIOUS INQUIRIES PLEASE. This is a great little jeep that would be a fun driver or farm jeep. It leaks oil/gear lube at several seals. Email any questions. Asking $1600.00 or best offer. Might do partial trade for guns, utility atv or tools”

1956 DJ-3A Richmond, KY **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: DJ-3A • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Was on eBay. **SOLD**

This runs and drives. The floor boards need a little work. This might restore well.

“You are looking at a very rare Willys, 4×2 Willys , DJ3A. It runs great and doesn’t smoke or knock. The paint is almost gone on it. It has four lug wheels with a straight axle in the front, all original. The brakes has a full peddle but need bleeding. The body is in reall good shape, with only two small places in the front floor. You can see this in the pictures. This would be an easy surface to repair. Driver’s seat needs to be rocovered. This vehicle is a 3 speed on the column and shifts good. I do have the front parking light lens and ring. Needs some exhaust work. It has a new windshield frame but does need a new glass and seal. Tires are in good shape. Over all with just a little TLC this Willys will be easy to restore.”

1965 DJ-3A Abbotsford, BC, Canada **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: DJ-3A • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4500

(11/12/2010) Here’s a DJ-3A that is in excellent condition, though it has been updated to 4wd.  The seller believes that there were DJ-3As with 4wd produced, but Bruce has told me this wasn’t the case.

“Unique little Dispatcher survivor in great condition. These vehicles were mostly all 2wdr units and only a few 4×4’s were produced, not sure if this is one or if it has been converted. It is in super condition to use as is or if a person was wanting to restore it, it would be a very nice little project. The jeep has all the correct running gear and it all works as it should. The transmission leaks at the front seal I believe, and needs to be replaced or keep a good eye on the fluid level. It also has new tires, clutch, shocks, brakes and wheel cyl’s. The roof on theses Dispatchers was not meant to taken on and off, so it is bolted on with many bolts, but could be removed with a couple hrs of labor. The electric winch on the front is super HD, probably overkill for this jeep, and it works great! The Jeep is also set up and wired for towing, pulls very nice, we towed it up and down the Oregon coast and had a blast on the beaches with it!”
