1962? Flattie Baltimore, MD $8950

• CATEGORIES: DJ-5 & DJ-6, Other 4x4s This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Price dropped to $8950.

(03/12/2020) This custom 2WD creation is currently was being advertised as a 1949 jeep, but not anymore. The axles appear to be from a DJ-5B circa 1972. The centered pumpkin in the rear should help verify this era of rear axle. The body is a reproduction body. The frame could be something from 1962, hence the title.

“Vintage Willys Jeep – must see, garaged. Runs and looks great for such old vehicle! Has mount for machine gun. Also have soft top. Military plates on dash. Have to see to appreciate. New battery. Also comes with soft top. Windshield also folds down. Come with new exhaust system, which was just installed! Prefer cash deal but also may entertain trades. What do you have? Please come and inspect, you can drive it home! Looks and runs great.”

Berg Truck & Parts Company Ads in Popular Mechanics

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

The first three ads appeared in Popular Mechanics during 1946, first in February, then March, then June. Note that the February ad does not include the King of Jeeps moniker, but the later two ads have it.

February 1946 Ad in Popular Mechanics, the earliest one I could find.

1946-06-popular-mechanics-berg-truck-parts-ad-lores

By June 1946 Berg was advertising Amphibious vehicles.

A November 1955 ad highlighted the use of private labeling by Berg. The hardtop looks like a Worman Jee-Cab that’s been rebranded “the Jeep King All Steel Cab”. I’m sure the “Jeep King Snow Plow” is another private labeled product.

This was the latest Ad from Berg that I found, though my searches were not extensive.

1943 GPW Antonito, TX **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB) This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $16,000.

This GPW came from the Bernstein Bros, a company that began as a steel recycler in Pueblo. The business became successful and branched in various direction. Owner Morey Bernstein became famous as an amateur hypnotist and writer.

“In 1952 my Father and myself purchased this Jeep from Bernstein Bros a farm and ranch supplier in Pueblo, Colorado. Bernstein Bros purchased several islands in the Pacific after WWII and brought items back as salvage. Not sure but feel this vehicle was in the Pacific. My Father was a master restorer of old vehicles and rebuilt the engine during the winter of 52-53 and made any repairs necessary. The Jeep is titled Ford and has all F bolts but the engine says Jeep on it. The Jeep is almost stock and the only changes that were made was the addition of push plates on the front bumper and a tow bar. Also lockout hubs were added an altitude meter in the dash was installed and an electric fuel pump. I never found the shovel and the axe that mounts on the drivers side. I have all of the owners manuals that came with it.

In 1953 the Jeep was moved to our summer home in South San Juan mountains just south of Alamosa, Colorado and has been kept there in a garage for the last 67 years. The odometer now shows around 43,000 miles and it had many of them before the overhaul. Our summer home is only accessible in the summer and we use the Jeep for hunting and fishing during the summer months only.

I will be able to get back to our cabin by early May to retrieve the Jeep and it will be available then. The Jeep runs very well and has been used but never abused. It does need a wheel alignment there is a little shimmy at 30 MPH.”
