Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I’ve owned this jeep for three years, purchased from a filmmaker/collector here locally who has several willys. I’m not sure how long he had it prior, but I got the distinct impression he’s committed to these vehicles. He has specific shops in Treadwell and Morris that he trusts to work on these (Morris is an hour away from here, which says something.)
I could not speak with certainty on the engine being original– I do know he had it machined and tuned just prior to my acquisition. The carb was also rebuilt.
The brakes seem to be in good condition. The top is in good condition minus a couple chips in the rim. All glass is in good condition (the side windows do not roll down). There is no handle on the passenger door.
The floor pans had been repaired in the past– plates added– they’re adequate but it could be prettier. There are a few rust holes. The toolbox is pretty rusty and has a few holes.
The frame looks good.
It has most certainly been repainted– I couldn’t say what the original color was.
New battery this spring. The wiring needs the turn signals and brake lights sorted out.
Runs very well and strong. Front wheel 4WD locks move well without a tool.
I deregistered it last year as I was fundamentally using it on the farm (to move firewood, and rarely) and didn’t want to pay insurance. I have the papers for easy transfer.
Quite simply, this jeep has gotten little use since I got it– housed in the barn, battery changed, rewiring started, oil changed. I’d keep it if we didn’t need to cover some unexpected expenses.”

Has the wrong grille for a 1950. Also has a BIG fuel tank.

This runs and drives, but has no title. Listed as a 1954, but obviously is later than that.

“1948 Willy’s Jeep CJ2A, Great Shape, minor rust on topper, surface rust on bed. Never restored, original flat head 4 w/ 64,000 miles. Runs and drives excellent. After-market blinkers. Includes original owner’s manual and Army Surplus defroster. New clutch installed several years ago, tuned up every year. Only driven in summer and kept undercover. Good, clean, honest Jeep. Asking $4800.”

This poor jeep. The rims look rare, but not sure they are worth much.

(11/23/2014) Includes a PTO and an aluminum top.
“I was rebuilding this and got a code violation in Arlington and had to stop. The body is rusted out but this is a really solid foundation for building a nice classic rig. Set up with Rancho springs and shackles, Saginaw steering, T98 four speed transmission with granny low, and bellhousing adapter/motor mounts for small block Chevy. I let my grandson pretend-drive and now the tranny won’t go into reverse, first, or second, so there is little value there. Has plastic gas tank and original gauges. Roll bar is fine. Front axle ring/pinion are broken but it rolls with hubs unlocked and driveshaft off, but needs rebuilding or replacing with a Dana 30. Has nice vintage aluminum wheels.
The real values here include:
– Rear axle is a shortened Ford 9 inch with Detroit Locker, Moser axles, and 11 inch drums. 3.73 ratio
– Ramsay PTO winch running off of Dana 18 transfer case
– Clean title with data plates on dash
Can be flat towed with included tow bar that I put on to get it out of Arlington.
I also have all other parts for a complete rebuild that I would include for the right price. Includes brand new body plus vintage body parts with Willys script; rebuilt Chevy 350 4-bolt main, aluminum heads, super torque cam; new Centerforce clutch; and aluminum top. ”
