Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This appears to be a variant of the Crosley Pup (see post from Jan 1). The size, the front end and the wheels look similar. The fenders are rounded. Possibly it is a prototype?

Not sure if perching a jeep on jerry cans was an approved mechanical strategy, but seems to work for these guys. I don’t remember ever seeing that done.

The seller labels this a 1945 Military Jeep M-38. It looks more like a non-military CJ-5. Someone went all out with the deer blind mods! Definitely one-of-a-kind!
“Today we have for sale a Military Willys M38 Jeep that was converted and used as a deer blind for hunting in south Texas.
The engine was removed after an attempt to restore the jeep but it has been left unattended for a long time. Situations in the family changed that won’t allow this to happen.

This looks great, though I’m a little surprised it wasn’t redone with the column shift. That got me thinking, was it possible to order an early CJ-2A with a floor shift?

It has the original 134cid 4 cylinder engine and T90 3-speed manual transmission with T-18 Spicer transfer case. Each and every piece on the classic Jeep has been dissembled, media blasted, rebuilt, reconditioned or replaced to achieve its as new condition. This Jeep has been finished in the correct Pasture Green color with Autumn Yellow wheels with Pasture Green pinstripe. This Jeep has less than 100 miles since restoration. Upgrades include stainless steel valves with hardened seats for unleaded fuel, carburetor (original included) and transfer case counter shaft upgrades. “Very Nice and rare early production Cj2a. Has column shift transmission, and rare full rear PTO with drum pulley attachment. Jeep runs great, brakes will need some attention.
Body is overall in nice shape for the year. Has some issues in the floor braces. Frame is overall nice condition, has some added metal on the front bumper that can be fairly easily removed. Original rails and gussets are intact!
Very good candidate for full restoration. This jeep has not been abused or modified, true barn find!.

(01/09/2014) This jeep appears in the Miami Craigslist, but is actually located (as noted in the ad) in Honduras. Given the large speedometer, I suspect it is later than a ’53.

“55′ M38A1″C” army jeep for restoration. A rare 106mm recoilless rifle version of the m38a1. Jeep body is pretty beat, but still has some hard to find accessories that can be transferred to a better body. Engine is the original, but does not turn over. Frame is very nice, with the coil helper springs in the back. Sold as is, no warranty…Bill of sale only.”
