FC-170 Hostess Tray on eBay

• CATEGORIES: Features • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: This is actually a “hostess tray”, not an ashtray. As noted in the comments, the difference between an Ashtray and a Hostess tray is the semi-circle attachment that holds cigarettes (see here: http://www.ewillys.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/1960-02-willys-news2-lores.jpg).

The interior of this hostess is black. Unclear if the black is original or not, but my inclination is that it isn’t. It’s listed at $109, but the “Make Offer” option is available.

“Here is a really cool vintage, Willys truck Jeep CJ advertising metal ashtray. The ashtray is in good to very good condition. It measures about 6 1/4 inches in diameter. The top has been painted black. Sorry about the reflection from the light.”

April 1958 Jeep News

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Good news. I’ve done a deal to purchase thirty issues of Jeep News, along with around 70+ Jeep Service and Parts News. Some are late 1950s, but most are from the early to mid 1960s.

Page one of the April 1958 eight-page issue of Jeep News highlights the introduction of the Mule, though calling is “space age” seems over the top. The front page also includes an announcement for the third-annual jeep rodeo in Yakima, hosted by the Yakima Ridgerunners.

Page three shares the news from the recently completed Jeep Cavalcade from Hemet to Borrego Springs, California. Page four announced the third-annual Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, Jeep Derby. Page five has some images for the Lake Erie hunting club.

On page six, don’t miss the modified jeep used to transport mobile homes (and attempt to meet some local laws. Speaking of transport, lower on page two is a modified buggy and trailer that carried hunters through and over local swamps. Page seven is a full page article on jeeps and salt water anglers.

Missed Out on this Unusual Brochure

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Artists/Drawings, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Likely from around 1958, this illustrated brochure is 24 pages. The front page included the title, “Man moves forward on WHEELS”. Unfortunately, I did my final bid too soon and lost out at the end. It was dumb on my part. Below are the pages posted to eBay. Hopefully, the buyer reads eWillys and is willing to send a scan of the booklet.

Nelson, Nevada, Ghost Town Tour Video

• CATEGORIES: Features • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Roger Martin shared this video from “Remote Trooper” that explores the ghost town of Nelson, Nevada, a place full of abandoned vehicles and other items. The tour includes a quick clip of an early Maverick Willys wagon complete with the rare emblem (at the 3:18 mark).

1946 Testimonial from the Wachusett Country Club

UPDATE: Last posted October 12, 2017

The photo of the jeep underneath the letter shows it without bow holders, but with an extra spare tire carrier. Does this mean the country club ordered it this way? Were the bow holders ever installed? There have been a couple early 2As that appeared unrestored, but without bow holders. I’ve wondered if they could be ordered that way.

From 2015: Africa USA, was part of a theme-park movement in the late 1950s that included New York’s Freedomland, Disneyland, Wisconsin’s Fort Dells, and others. By 1959, these parks were collectively generating revenue of $2 billion.

There is a feature article about these parks in the August 1, 1960, issue of Life Magazine. The picture below is from that article. You can take a ‘virtual’ jeep-train tour of Africa USA here (don’t expect much)

This article appeared in the December 1955 issue of Willys News. That’s the jeep train behind the animals.
